Today.
A good lesson off:
"What Goes Around, Comes Around."

Today I had to attend a call out. The call came in 2 hours before I had finished the stint.
So off I drove and arrived at the site to be greeted with a red faced and embarrassed staff member. Plus a shop full of smoke.
She had managed to "forget" to disarm the Intruder alarm. So when she was well into the shop, the "Smoke Cloak/Bomb had gone off.
Causing the "GET THE POLICE HERE NOW" system to kick in.
Plus the Fire beams had also gone into fire, I wonder why?
So The Fire brigade had also arrived.
The Emergency service had done their bit and trotted off to in a happy sort of way, knowing they can charge.

Long story short, I managed to sort it all out, save her bacon and keep the shopping centre staff happy.

So as a "thank you" I was given this.

So, I popped into a local shop, almost on my way home.

Bagged a coffee, a few bits and a "What is it?" More of that later.

Those flat jaw pliers might well be right angled sheet metal clamping or bending pliers . Do they over centre & lock when you have two bits of thin tinplate in the jaws ?

They don't lock, but gentle hand pressure does clamp the jaws tight against sheet metal.

Plus the upper jaw is adjustable.

The Volt meter works, only regulated to 8V.
I am guessing a Old car type tester, or old motorcycle one.

The probes are decent tin coated brass and a decent amount of meat on them.

I acquired one of these the other day on an articulated ball mount. Its marked " Sheetog Plier Clamp " - Made In England.

Today I acquired a tax rebate! Not expected, not a fortune so I spent it on some decent Bessey parallel clamps with some free Famag Forstner bits, countersinks etc. It comes with a 125mm forstner bit extension which is 30 odd quid retail, I wouldn't have bought it otherwise but wanted one as I have a set of Famag bits.

I need the parallel clamps for clamping up some dovetailed oak drawers and cupboard trays for the kitchen. Not essential, other clamps would do but these make it easier and I have about 30 to make.

This was my first test piece, the joints need cleaning up as they are straight off the Leigh dovetail jig and grooves need routing for the 6mm ply base.

Whatever happened with all the war loan and lend lease equipment ? It was never returned or did the Americans not want it back ? Did they give it was aid ? I was looking at a Savage made lee enfield rifle a while ago, it was clearly marked "US PROPERTY", along the side of the action.

Well there was a big p&w vertical borer in the shipyard still being used when I left in 2014 that Had a plate on it saying it had been supplied under the lend lease agreement

Got a insulated shed to build in November and will keep the tools dry.
I'd pop outside for a test bit it's piddling down.

Could do with some weights now. The covering is held with guy ropes.

Not gonna grumble for 40 quid.

Not a bad haul today.

A Tool shop I visit quiet a lot gave me a call and told me they had some bits I may be interested in or have asked about in the past.
They were right, I was interested and I did leave with them.



Marples wood turning chisels set. Look un-used as well.



A set of small wire brush set, @slim_boy_fat yes, that shop we both know.


I had enough time to stop by a local charity shop, again they had set aside some bits.
Useful to me and MIS.



Pruning Saw.
Compass.
Clutch aligning tool.
Eclispe Pad saw handle.
Pliers.

Works on the slow boats but the cats on the jersey run are very unpredictable and roll in a very odd motion.

You obviously never did the Dover Calais hovercraft that was unpredictable, one memorable crossing we got back to within a mile of Dover and the crew were saying that it was too rough to turn back to Calais I hate roller coasters but that crossing was fun.

I did a few times. Dealt with that better than the cat though.

I haven’t got the energy to remove all the bubble wrap that the dear lady in Lerwick put it all in yesterday afternoon, but suffice it to say that somewhere in the cab there’s 4 bottles of single malt whisky, a bottle of spiced gin for OH, God Only knows how many bags of Shetland fudge, and a new mug coz I bust my old one last week.

And before it all gets home it will be well travelled as having got off the ferry in Aberdeen at 7 o’clock this morning, I’ve got 2 drops for the centre of London tomorrow morning followed by a return load out of Lakenheath in Suffolk before getting home on Friday, not much change from 1500 miles .

And that’s long-distance trucking, UK style .
