Last pic, three “things” with retractable shafts are hinge drills. Align the moving bit into a countersink hole on a hinge and create a perfectly centralised pilot hole for starting a screw. Three different sizes

Nothing too exciting today. I got some cheap plastic drill and collet stands last week, so devoted a bit time to organising a box of drills, dies and tappets my hubby had in the depths of the shed.

I came across these things, and am not 100% sure what they are. The biggest bundle look to my non expert eyes as ‘hand’ reamers and most are still in they waxy covers (I took the wax off a few to have a better look).

I have no idea what the two long spade things are, ir what the things that look like screwdriver bit holders, but have drills hidden by a retractable shaft.

Can anyone help with info on the odds and bods.

The long flat thing on the left with numbers on it looks like a 300mm/12” rule. .

Bottom pics are center drill. They locate the drill bit centrally in a countersunk hole for pilot drill. Usually used for door hinges by me.

The last of this years’ tomatoes, (and a very empty looking greenhouse...), the inverter out of my wagon back from repair, (hurrah, fresh coffee and toast will return to the menu next week ), and a pair of white LED marker lights and a length of heat shrink to finish off the abnormal load marker light system.

How times have changed, years ago I’d have bought tomatoes from the shop and twisted the ends of cable together and wrapped them in insulation tape...

Spade drills originally were basically a round shaft sliced in half. You get engraving cutters exactly that style still and they may indeed be some form of engraving cutter although I would expect them to be sharply pointed for that.
A search for D Bit drill may shed some light on things.

Permutations to suit any load I’m ever likely to carry, up to 5 metres wide or 30 metres long, with “just in case” extension cables for good measure. Now I need to find a secure place in the truck to store them, away from our company’s contingent of prying eyes and light fingers...

Doing a roof job today and the old guy said "do you know anyone who does shed clearance"...Whaaaaaat by 3pm had tons of stuff in my yard including 55 gallon drum of Shell hydraulic oil.

If I put the receipts in, they’d pay up without question, but the problem with that is that it would then become company property, and they could quite easily make use of it, should they feel the desire.

It probably sounds weird, but I’m happy to pay for this kind of gear myself. It’s my personal property, made to my own spec, and I know it will be looked after and used correctly.
