Like David above. I was at the recycling centre and saw a gentleman dumping this grinder. He dumped it in my car. Mr official got upset, until he was told to get a life.

It didn't have a plug and the mains switch was faulty. Fitted a plug an away the grinder went. Defective switch?

You can have my makita angle grinder if you fancy, it's just dropped the spindle locking pin into the spur gear and spat quite a bit of it back out through the casing

Led torch made by Duracell for £1 a quick clean with contact cleaner and new batteries and it work fine.
Looks almost new.

Wee trip to the dump. Nice trade: I got rid of a carload of cardboard boxes and workshop rubbish in exchange for a Bosch cordless drill, boxed with charger (suffering a sticky switch but working!) and a nice big pair of stilsons (which will be treated to an electrolysis bath to clean the minimal rust off, then some new blue paint).

*edit* quick clean up, 24" Record stilsons! Will finish cleaning and painting after lunch

Id only this morning spoken to the mrs about this thread and "skip eyes" lol. Such a shame what people will throw away though, I also spied a Makita angle grinder, umpteen other drills (cordless and mains), and a Record no.6. Mental.

I think you're OK if it's been taken straight from their vehicle to yours (or should be), but if it's been put in their skip or designated area it's then theirs and you can't take it.

Mr Official was adamant that it was theirs now as we were in the skips.
Hence why he was told to get a life. I asked his to show me in writing "this rule"


But my other local yard have a simple rule. In the skip theirs, not in the skip, fair game.
Down Hasting way they will let you "donate" to get some skipped stuff.

Yeah youre not meant to here either but the guys who work there are ok, and they get annoyed at seeing people skip good stuff. I didnt rip the pee, so the guys ok with it.

I can see it from the councils side, to dissuade the nefarious from coming in for a poke about, but ultimately its all going the way of the furnace. Real shame we've become such a throwaway society

Got a Ifor Williams 3500kg tipping trailer today for a bargain price (1800 quid), in need of a set of new springs, and a new hydraulic dump valve/solenoid, and remote. Migged up a wee bit of angle iron on the base (just a holder for ramps, not structural, but a bitch to get to with the MIG torch underneath).
Should be good to go in a few days, I'll take some photos. Hopefully will be good as new for less than 2500 quid.
It has lived it's life by the seaside, but luckily it has a thin coating of cement over most of the galvy steel! I painted rust converter over the hydraulic ram, will powerwash again tomorrow then paint. I got some clear waxoyl as well to slosh all over (I know, there are better alternatives but I have always used Waxoyl and it seems to work for me). Took the side lynch-pin fasteners off and gave them a blast, also drilled out and re-tapped the jockey wheel clamp thread.
It's been a busy day!

There is a nearby tip with very helpful staff with an interest in collecting things themselves and who are therefor very happy to let others do so too. But they're more or less completely stuck since CCTV was installed to watch them.

Many things just go for landfill or to be melted down, what doesn't help round here is that the company involved/running these sites are well known by all those who have had the misfortune to deal with them to be more bent than a banana that's been snapped in half.

The jaws are removable with two flat head screws in each. Look unused to me!

use some grey scotch bright and water to remove any dirt etc and key the surfaces, then give it a good wipe over with panel wipe followed by a couple of coats of laquer.
