Got chatting to a bloke at the car boot and Hey Presto I now have a rusty old french scooter thingy.
We want to get it going but leave it looking rusty so how best to preserve it?
It was new in 1968 and parked up in 1974 not used since.
Oh how would you free the piston?

Mobilette (sp?) as for the piston, pour plus gas through the spark plug hole, or thin some oil with parafin and do the same, leave it to sit for a week or two, take head off and using a piece of timber tap the piston down (assuming it's not at the bottom of the stroke) if you're lucky it might turn over in the kick start after soaking

Mix old engine oil and diesel (50/50) heat up, pour into bore and leave. Refit plug.

Put some WD40 down the plug hole and it turned over this morning with good compression, just need to sort the fuel system next

I just acquired a Balalaika for nowt, 3 stringed Russian folk instrument, cheapo mass produced thing that someone bought as a souvenir while on holiday in Greece years ago, it had never been played & had no bridge so the strings flapped around.
Stuck a pencil under the strings about there & wound them up, It actually sounds quite good so is going to get fixed properly!

weird tuning, for a solo instrument::: bottom string E, Middle string E, top string A. A stock bridge from maybe a mandolin could be adapted depends how high the strings need to be off the front in relation to the fretboard

Hell of a Difference, but i`ll stick with my Bouzouki.
I repolished a very rare one -Balalika--for an Ex Russian way back in the 70s, Speycheck Lysack he lived down in London, I can get a tune out of many stringed instruments but boy was this a challenge and a half to try and play anything half recognisable.

Was round a friends house, he gave me this.
Sealy trolley jack, rusty, but works.

Just pressured washed it.
Looks a lot better, red all over.
Tested it on neighbour fully loaded Renault Traffic Master, lifted it, held it.
But the jack handle has had it.

Motor out a tumble dryer, fixed speed single phase AC. With the wee fan on it it's about the right size for the vent at the back of the garage, so once I've re-roofed I might use it to make a bit of a forced air extraction. Rest of the dryer's going to the skip though. I hate trying to clear stuff so I can do the garage, it is forcing me to be a bit more harsh with myself and finally get round to throwing out some stuff. Like my brothers old pub bandit that has been in the garage for about 10 years and doesn't work! He's been singularly unhelpful in getting rid of it
Also now got a large pile of scrap outside I've rescued from work, no pics but a lot of 25mm 2mm wall box section which should come in handy.

Couple of things at a boot sale, the clamp was £3 and the 6" Elliott Lucas stripper was £5. The blowtorch was given to me by a colleague having a clear out (also a set of jump leads with Anderson plugs) and the Vax was given to me by a neighbour.

A set of Wera Torx keys, mum got them for me for good(ish) AS grades.


I needed a T9 security one to take apart and dust a PS4 but unfortunately the T8 & 9 aren't drilled for the nipple in tamper resistant screws. Oh well, they'll still get plenty of use on other things.

Best with two sets as torx bits are not that hard to break, never mind hollow ones! Security ones are best kept to jobs needing them.

went to autojumble got 30 - 4 inch lynisher belts for 4 quid a new martindale ringmain tester and a martindale test probes for 6 quid and a load of 20mm mild steel round bar for 6 quid . makes a change its been crap lately

Wish I'd went, went to a machenery sale instead and it was crap.
