Main thing is to match the power to what you are intending to run....gave it a go this morning and works just fine. Site transformer I think would have worked fine....but I wanted something a little more convenient that I could keep in the drill doctor box.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 110v 50 hz site transformer, and have found that my tools from the U.S. work fine with it; however I have a high end tube amplifier which I have been reluctant to use with it. There is a company called Kikisui (think that's the right spelling) which makes a voltage/frequency converter, but the price astronomical.

Sounds like you can explode it if you try just that wee bit harder

Finally got my drill doctor setup....it's a crazy world when it's cheaper to buy and ship something from the USA than buy it here in the UK!!!....why on earth is that?

This one has a USA plug so I had to get a separate transformer but even factoring in the transformer it was still £50 cheaper!

I seem to be buying more and more stuff from USA amazon....even with import VAT and postage it's a big enough saving to disregard the warranty issues.

Not all US vendors ship to the UK but quite a few of them do I find.

Good stuff, I know many folks slag them off saying you should just learn to sharpen drill bits on any spinny thing you find on site or in the back of the garage but I am not one of them.
I really like my Drill Dr especially the quick split point preparation which makes a huge difference when cross drilling chrome plated 'Unicol' tubes on site.

^^^ yea I tried all sorts of "techniques" ....in the end I decided to just buy a tool to do the job. The time I would have spent perfecting the technique can be spent doing something more interesting!

On UK amazon they are £160....crazy....US amazon is $130 inc VAT and postage!

I bought a transmission cooler and also a transmission oil thermostat too...saved quite a bit vs the UK price. Amazon US shipping seems really quick too....I think most stuff arrives in 4 days!

Big saving agreed but for me not worth the paperwork when putting it through the books and claiming back the VAT.

What transformer did you get ?

I've been looking for one that converts the 240 volt 50hz UK supply to 110 volt 60hz.

I’ve been running a drill doctor via 110v site transformer for the last 25yrs. Wont hurt it

Today at a stand in hay on wye I picked up a lovely ww1 pioneers chainsaw in original leather pouch, cost me 20 beer tokens but well worth it. I'll post a photo when I get back to the hotel tonight. I think the handles are replacements and the pouch might want a feed but other than that's its lovely

Seem to be buying a lot of hose clips lately....its turned into a bit of an obsession but re-hosing 3 cars means I seem to really get through them very quickly. I refuse to put those awful wire clips onto new hoses....they really cut into the rubber and can do alot of damage I think.

This is my latest set....£15 inc the nice jubilee flexi driver too. I find the older clips seem to be alot better made so whenever I see them for sale I tend to get them in.

Oooh you sod, I’ve been wanting one of those for ages.

Sheer chance, I have looked everywhere for one of a small size, reasonable price and good capacity. Such an animal does not exist and I had resigned myself to going down to Chester Machine tools open week next week and buying one of their multi purpose machines. Went to see my cousin last Thursday and he was showing me his new Horizontal Borer. Very niceI said but what I need is a small folder and guillotine. Oh, think I have one in the shed. And here we are.
Next up to find a small guillotine. Small chance of that as I just cannot find one, anywhere. Not of reasonable capacity anyway.

I will however need to make a stand, of substantial material and rigidity.

No, I sold it and the guy thats bought it took a few bits off it so he can start the resto. Gets collected tomorrow, thats been one hell of a truck.

A surface grinder, been under a tarpaulin for 10 years. The bellows are intact so under the grime there's quite a nice machine. Ignore the half-stripped state, the only thing I can find is missing is the reflector for the lo-volt lamp.

Needless to say you won't recognise it as the same machine by the time I've done with it.
