It's just an air rifle, and a weenie one at .177, but it sure gave the pigeons something to worry about last night.

Today I got my grumpy mits on:
5lt's of hydraulic oil. Un opened container.
4lt's , in 1lt containers of hydraulic jack oil. All un opened.
What is the difference between the 2 oils.
Any one out there who knows?

I don't know but I very strongly suspect that they're the same thing. I cannot think of anything you could possibly want in a jack that hydraulic oil doesn't provide.
At the end of the day a jack is a large cylinder, a small cylinder and a pressure relief valve, no different to the vast majority of hydraulic systems. The one and only difference I can think of is that a jack doesn't have as high operating temperature.

Jack Oil is just Hydraulic Oil in small bottles at 10x the price!

the second boxford lathe to enter the workshop, in a sad state but looks worse than it is, will have to make up some good penetrating oil so suggestions please.
the motor runs, 240 volts and loads of extras with it that just need a good cleaning... most importantly is the back gears are all fine and it comes with a full set of change wheels... the motor is rear mounted instead of in the cabinet under the lathe. i had to unbolt the speed change pullies to get it out through the blokes shed door.

hydraulic jack oil is normally iso46 oil so its thin and flows faster than thicker oil in the likes of a jack but a lot of the time the cheaper branded stuff wont necessarily have many lubricating properties.
you can get hydraulic oil in different grades but normally a iso32 is used in a lot of circuits unless otherwise is stated.
the quality of the oil would depend on how much lubrication the oil could provide, some would use diesel 10 in hydraulic systems which has much the same viscosity of 32 but with the added benefit of more lubrication.
so essentially, as said, the jack oil and the hydraulic oil is much the same thing, id use either the hyd oil ( if it was thin enough) and the jack oil in a jack but i wouldnt use the jack oil in a hydraulic system iykwim.

All new fresh stock, currently in the fridge at home, I'm waiting on a new camera but I think I'm getting stung with import duty
