Having cogitated for a good time, this is the only reason i can come up with to not buy a Matador

My Dad had an ex-army Matador wrecker in the 60s. Sadly, I don't have any pictures but I seem to remember it was white.

Look at it. Nothing to go wrong. Its all too thick to go rusty, and what isn't steel is wood.

Only one I know of round here is petrol, and seldom goes out.

Fella on the island here had one for winching trees. Was petrol and I was told it wasn't how many mpg but how many gallons per mile. Very impressive beast though.

When I started at the bus company in '76 they had a Matador breakdown truck, 28mph top speed.

I envy the local timber boys out my way that had them as working trucks. That sort of work is long gone here

My old head stalker work one in the New Forest when he was a boy. Said they were brilliant. Once the ruts were deep enough they sent the truck up and down by itself ! One boy either end of the track to jump in and stop it, then send it back

My Grandad had one as a breakdown truck with a jib and spade anchors, I used to go out with him as a kid, and my memory, as well as how smashed cars just swung around on the back to the yard, was how my Grandad, being quite short, used to drive it standing up.

Not much use for road work @ 28mph absolutely balls out and howling. Cabs are wood and tend to have the rigidity of a wet fag packet if they’re a restoration project. If you’ve got somewhere to play with it then they’re pretty good working tools, but there’s much more practical gear around. I got let down on a mk1 militant gun tractor a few years ago, and I’m sort of glad I did. However a mk3 militant would be right up my street

It sounds like you want it so I say buy it. As long as you don't need to go long distances in a hurry I am sure it will still do the job fine.

If you can cart cars or machinery with it everyone will want you to move stuff.

I think one of my next projects will be a truck, I need something to carry stuff and minis have a bit of a limit there.
