Here in QLD Australia it is just a matter of upgrading your licence by doing a driving test for each vehicle class. No recurring testing

ive been having similar thoughts about getting a classic truck for a while now... mine is slightly more mundane, but strangely much rarer. loads of aec matadors out there for sale, i want a ford d series 7.5t. i can only find 1 for sale in a reasonable price range, and it is not in reasonable condition....

Dad ran a pair of d series on recovery years ago, one with a hiab on, usually stacked 4 high, and a tractor unit with a home brewed spec lift, went all over the country with them

Almost any Matador that runs can be made into a good cheap truck without too much work or problems.
Explorers on the other hand can be a real money pit if you get a less than perfect one, but find a good one with Cummins L10 installed and a good gearbox and they are a marvellous thing to drive and play with.
Sensible choice is of course a matador.

Just no use cant shift anything only water
A VERY long way. I know there is a team around, that had a complete unit. Land rover, bike, goddess (x2) flat bed. the works. Fascinating story of moving water to contaminated areas in the event of a nuclear war.
