Green goddess wouldn’t be any use to me, Bedford RL’s are nice and cheaper, flatbed with hiab would do the job. Love the unimogs but don’t know a great deal about them, just seen this on Facebook which looks cheap at first glance.
1983 Mercedes-Benz unimog 427/v1000
£3,750 or sensible offers Starts and runs perfectly fine Hydraulic and spools all work Cab has been patched. But brakes need attention it will require some work V5 present Having to sell due to...www.facebook.com

Don’t think I’m looking at it wrong, it’s only for some light hearted fun not a business venture I need to pay a mortgage with and spend 60 hours a week driving. A friend passed away and his vehicles are to be auctioned off, thought it would be fun to buy one, have some fun with it and offset some tax, just looking for what people would use a matador for, not looking to become a haulage contractor. Thanks for your knowledge of old wagons though. The thread has been interesting as more people than I thought have had some family member matador stories. No such thing as a cheap unimog. Try fixing them!
I think to be honest you’re looking at it wrong. If you want a wagon to work, get a 7.5t daf 45 and have something with manners on the road and use ability. If you’re just wanting to show it, get something you can actually get to shows that aren’t just 2 miles down the road unless you’ve got an artic to move it long distance. Old wagons are nice, but there’s a reason no one is working them anymore
Old Unimogs had electrical issues, imagine what the new ones are like. It's possible to get a nice Unimog 416/417 with super low miles for around £5k.
I bought my second one with 14,000 miles on the clock for that money. Its made in 1977 and practically mint as it was a reserve tug on a reserve air field here in Norway.PTO's front and rear, three hydraulic circuits, three way tipping bed, hydraulic pickup hitch.
Parts are cheapish for the older trucks. Nothing I have bought was unreasonably priced and I got it all quick smart from Germany. They are a basic truck and there are thousands of them still in use.
May have mentioned this before, I suggested to my wife when these were being disposed of and coming out of civil defence service that one would make a good cheap classic, similar to when Routemaster buses were being retired and could be had for about £3k. Apparently these were "not good ideas" and the plan was vetoed. Why not a green goddess? One for sale in Wigan for 2.5k, needs a few little bits but not much

Alvis Stalwart, Unimog, Berliet, Mercedes, the list is long. What about an Alvis Stalwart ? I have always fancied one.
They are getting really expensive now, iconic wagon thoughOne nobody has said is a Volvo sugga! Mega machine, not a truck only a 4x4 but still ace
Round cab mogs have very basic wiring and the fuse board is fed via wires under the dash which can be hard to reach . But a 40 year old truck doesn't have a lot of wiring to be fair. Square cab mogs from about 1982 up until the late 90s are a joy to work on,six or eight main plugs, tipping cab and deck. Easy peazy.Old Unimogs had electrical issues, imagine what the new ones are like.
Most Mogs that era can be very rusty though hard to find a nice one now and good money . We had to make a crane Truck out of one and the one he choose took 4x longer to repair cab than fit crane and bodyRound cab mogs have very basic wiring and the fuse board is fed via wires under the dash which can be hard to reach .
