V8 trike build.

So is it on to the dry build ready for test? Or will you do a 'finish' build and only change something if needed?

This is going to be the last build before MSVA, hopefully, unless I run into any major problems. I really need to find a decent th350 transmission fairly soon as that has to go in right at the start. The one in there is just an empty casing.

Buy a new one from Summit, it will save you the pain of finding out that the second hand one you've bought is junk.

A Powerglide would probably be more suitable, and would fit in the same space but be 50lb lighter. I shall browse Summit.

I've moved the frame into the front garage, and now I start cleaning up, finishing off, repairing, all the various bits to go on it. First was the Jag diff. The drain plug, 1/2'BSPT for a guess, with a 1/2' square drive... made of cheese. In the end I bored out a nut and welded it over the square drive. That did the trick.



Oddly enough, I managed to carry the frame into the front garage all by myself. I had planned to call a mate round, but thought I'd have a go first.







It will be a pain working around the Bulldog, but I have a cunning plan. There's a small 'car port' or porch on the front of this garage, so I'm thinking of walling the side in and putting a big door on the front, then the bikes can live in there. It's got to be tidy, as it faces the street, plus it'll also be my front door.....



A couple of my neighbours have done similar using big hinged UPVC constructions. But I bet that's not cheap.

Id not put the front door, in the garage. Would a roller door just past the front door be enough space for the bikes. Alternatively could you alter the layout to move the front door?

It's a strange setup, where the bike sits is a raised area, for wheelchair access to the front door, when the place was built. Ideally I'd have to smash all that out and re-lay the drive level to the front of the garage, then I could move the garage door back behind the front door.

Plus, the bathroom extractor fan would then be blowing out into the garage, if I did box the place in. Never thought of that. It's the window just past the front door.

You might be surprised.

I did exactly that - locally there is a reasonably cheap UPVC place - wandered in with my measurements , few hundred quid and a couple weeks later they delivered double hinged door front panel (one door secured closed so the other butts up to it - can be opened when I need to get wide stuff in/out) and a side panel (sold at bottom, window and opener upper) that I screwed into place and sealed around. Done.

Mine was a little more exciting as I had to chisel off the pebble dashing neatly to create a suitable location. Made the house hallway and corner of a front bedroom warmer too.

Just duct the extract fan outside, easy enough. I get the lay out, no need to chisel the concrete out if theres enough length for the bikes between the existing garage door and front door!

No, there's only about 10' to play with altogether, the horizontal concrete is only just big enough for the bikes to sit on and still clear the hypothetical new big door.

It might all be more trouble than it's actually worth, I shall have a good think about it though.

I need to keep two bikes in the front bit, so nowhere near enough room for a plan like that, unfortunately.

How often do you need to use the up and over door to the garage? You could make a plywood wedge to level out some (short wedge so door just clears) or all (long wedge putting door out of action) of the sloping bit so the raised flat bit is longer.

It gets worse than that. I get regular mail shots for "retirement living" in a dismal newly built "pleasant environment".
I have yet to ask them where I can put my lathe, milling machine, welding gear and substantial material stock

And me, also get the retirement home/flat/apartment leaflets come a couple of times a week. The other one I get on a regular basis saying ”we can sell you home for you” or similar, if I wanted to sell I would go & see an estate agent, I won’t decide to sell because of a leaflet stuffed through the door.

Just a thought is there still a requirement for an attached garage, which I think enclosing that space might make it, to have a floor level below the level of a door jamb into the main house?
