Improperly dressed though - he has the lace-up boots, brown dust coat, collar and tie - but no Safety Fedora.
He isn't on-site so I suppose we can let him off this time.
So evocative of the era.

If you get time to scan a few old mono pictures there are a few sites that can make them colour free and if you have a clever 10 year old with photo shop you can do some amazing restoration.

Finally found the scans I did of photos of my Dad in the RAF. An LAC I think:
11th Feb 1949:
RAF Shepherds Grove:
Right, first thing, no outriggers, toe boards, mid-rail...
...again, RAF Shepherds Grove:
"Shepherds Grove - DSS Flight Hut". In the middle, "X" marks the spot:

Fag in hand:
A few of them got "forgotten" one time whilst at some airfield due to some clerical error which they chose not to bring to anyone's attention. For a few months I think it was. Ended up living off the land on whatever they could catch or purloin locally. Had a big communal stew pot that everything went it so it turned to soup. In that time they landscaped outside their hut, built fish ponds etc.
Took part in the Berlin Airlift and was stationed in Germany for a bit. Something to do with flying in a Lancaster and monitoring Soviet communications. Even though it was post WW2 they would have to in effect scramble at a moment's notice with suits/spooks on board. It meant them landing at strange airfields with no billets sometimes and getting a dressing down by RAF officers out of the loop for being unshaven etc. If really lucky they would get billeted in the American officers messes for some reason where there were as Dad puts it "servants".
Met Mum whilst in uniform at a dance.
On a sadder note I put all Dad's details onto Forces Reunited a few years back. One of the guys in the photos who served with Dad contacted me. Turns out he'd been living less than 10 miles away all these years! We all met up at his house but it didn't really come to anything. The guy was pretty successful, nice house, home workshop and hobbies. Don't know if Dad was a bit resentful etc or just generally down as Mum was in the mid stages of her dementia struggle. The guy got a bit stressed too when I took a while to get his photo albums back to him.

Great grandad, around 15ish before he headed for Ypres. Lied about his age to join up, came home a month before the wars end with one leg after taking severe gunshot wounds near mons
