Indeed , photos will do no good sitting in a cupboard for years while those who knew them forget which happens with other sentimental items aswell

Just found another photograph of my grandfather, around 1915 first world war Egypt, Grand father is far right, SGT Ernest Arthur Graham, He was away for five years, i cant honestly imagine being away from home for such a long period, Apparently it took quite a while for my young mother to accept that he was her dad when he returned.!!! ( I love his moustache )

I realised after i posted....

I found another one of Gran, (she's the one standing ) this time in WW2 doing the ambulance driving thing again, in WW2 she was part of the civil defence/ ARP rather than the army, and went out during the London blitz bombing raids

My wife's grandfather Jock MacTavish getting awarded the Military Medal in 1945, age 19, Ypres. He was a Tank driver in the 23rd Hussars, from D day to Berlin:

My paternal Grandfather and his first wife. He was in the 1/5 R S F in WW1 he fought at Gallipoli Palestine and the western front. He was in the civil defence in WW2 in the London blitz.

My father was a dispatch rider and trained at Newmarket, which had been taken over by the army during the war. This pic was probably 1940 or 1941

My dad lost an uncle in the Royal Scots at Gallipoli.

Aye it was slaughter out there. My Grandfather like many of his generation seldom spoke of his war. However he told my father that during a lull in the fighting he was tasked to clear the battlefield casualties, and while lifting the corpses (that were rotting in the intense heat) onto stretchers the arms and legs would detatch. Imagine the horror of that.
My Dad said as a kid he would hear his father scream in the dead of night after a vivid dream. Little wonder really. Lest we forget.

PoW in Burma until 1949? Were they involved in the 48-50 Civil War?
