I asked someone on another forum who works on Merlin engines and he's not heard of them being fitted with Smiths carbs, they generally had SU or Bendix twin choke updraft carbs.

Just looked in the big spanner drawer.
This is the biggest or rather longest, a 1 3/4" Proto from Canada.
And this make is a new one on me, kind of similar in shape to some of the SuperSlim ones I have but made by Spearpoint of England.

Also came across a couple of unusual sockets. They were in a small metal case with about 6 sockets and if I recall a small bar. They were my Granddads but sadly I seem to have lost most in 2 house moves and 2 workshop moves.

Got a rollcab so was sorting through some of the spanners today and found a few more unusual, at least to me, names.
Dowidat from Germany, never heard of them but found this info online
"Dowidat was a company founded 1949 by one of the remaining 2 Dowidat brothers (the 3rd. died at younger age) because of disagreements of the 2 (much like the "Dassler" brothers --> Adidas/Puma). So the one Dowidat brother stayed in the Gedore company (founded by them) and the other left to open up his own "Dowidat" company. Later Dowidat merged with "Belzer" to form "Belzer-Dowidat" and then in 1988 they were bought by Bahco. The Dowidat name then disappeared and tools were sold under the Bahco-Belzer brand but thats history too."

You can't complain for $6 dolars if you needed af spanners it's a bargain. Jaws look pretty spot on with no bruising.
As it is $6 decoration for vintage tools isn't bad either.

Yeah they're nice. I do use them occasionally when I can't find a duplicate for tightening things, one also lived under the lathe for a bit when I was trying to steady it!
I actually found an English made Britool 12-13mm open end spanner but it must be something late, the end has gotten all chewn up, a bit disappointing really. I think I need the older stuff, but it's like hens teeth here, same as King Dick.

Doing some more tidying today and came across some more old spanners which may be of interest.
First this one, no name on it but the shape is interesting but more so is the differing ends. It is a combination spanner with a difference. I think it must have been made for a service kit for some specific machine.
Next is maybe from a valve or something?
Found quite a few of these, never heard of the make before but it is American. The 20 is not the size but seems to be a model number of some kind.
Next up what I presume was from a Vincent motorbike tool kit.
This last one is very interesting though. A.H.D.M.CO is the make and dated 1939.
The interesting bit however is the size, suspect it would be quite unusual for that vintage.
