Warco lathe wiring??

u would have to ask warco if the neutral is needed if u go for the Clarke one it may operate a transformer in machine for a contactor

I have been in touch with warco and they said that they use transwave so i have contacted them and the converter i need is £493.00, i have been and got the cable but before i order one of those converters this is what the inside of the electric box looks like and i have noticed there is a black cable running to a case with a fuse inside but the cable does not run to anything, do you know what this could be?

you can also see marked l1 l2 l3 the earth and i assume the other black is the neutral but the neutral doesn't appear to run to anything?

Did warco not offer you a wiring diagram. Could be to supply single phase to a dro set up, or suds pump or lamp, but it looks retro fitted looking at the blue crimp where it goes into the realy.

the 3 phase supply was cut just before the rotary isolator connect as was using the neutral if its getting used on a transwave either that or test the neutral cable out with a meter to see if it is connected to anything

Yes looks like a standard 3 phase supply no neutral required presuming the neutral is on black core no. 4 in the grey cable.

Is the cable marked 4 the one that was connected to the blue neutral in the isolator? It does not appear from this angle to be connected to anything.

Yes i think that this is the neutral but it does not go no were just wired into the top of that holder but nothing is running out of it like the rest?

you can clearly see the feed for l1 l2 l3 running in and out, you can see the earth but the neutral does not feed any were i cannot see why its there? unless do you only need 3 lives and an earth as the feed in no neutral is needed?

i was wondering what the other black cable is for it runs to a holder with a fuse inside but runs to no were, could this of been a live feed for something aftermarket?

Probably something as you say non factory, could even be a indicator light or something maybe a light that illuminated when the lathe was on to so a teacher could tell if a machine was powered up?
This fused line tap may of worked with the neutral to give them a 240v supply.

I have double checked that black cable what does not run no were and that appears to be the neutral feed when i traced it all the way to the isolation switch, does this machine not need a neutral to run

If it was strictly a 3-phase machine then no. However, the load across the phases is unbalanced because of the transformer, so it should be used.

Its a warco three phase lathe from factory, it was originally hard wired up into a collage and the wiring was cut off but still wired up into the lathes electric box, so how the wires are in the fuse box should be how this has been running.

I have bought a transwave machine to run this lathe and im hoping its as simply as just replacing the cable and im hoping that inside a 400v socket it says l1 l2 l3, earth and neutral so i know that the lives are in sync because in the fuse box it states which is l1 l2 l3, so hopefully it should be straight forward however i am no electrician and it all goes straight over my head.

The members on this forum are great though and have really helped me out including how to wire this up.

The beauty of 3-phase is that if the motor turns in ther wrong direction after you wire it up, you only need to reverse any two of the lines to get it to spin in the right direction.

As above you just need to vire up your plug with 3 lives and an earth.
When you first power it up it will either run in the correct direction or backward. You just need to swap 2 lives over in the plug.

There is also a possibility that the contractor in the machine may chatter(the contacts bounce back and forward rapidly) as the contactor won't fully pull in this can occasionally happen if they are fed from the artificial phase. Should this happen just let us know what version of converter you have and we can look to see what wires to swap over.
This is unlikely to happen on the lathe as the contactors are on a separate 24v supply.
But maybe something to consider with the grinders or a drill as they are more likely to have 400v coils.

Great thanks for all your input transwave have already dispatched the unit so hopefully get it tomorrow or monday and i will keep you all up to date, hopefully it all goes smoothly as i got quoted £40.00 just to put a plug on the lathe

i have not been a bought a plug yet until i get the convertor so i know which one i need but am i right in saying that it will state l1 l2 l3 earth and neutral because if it does the fuse box also states l1 l2 l3 so it should work perfect straight away???

Dont think hell have the chatter problem, but if he does easy enough to sort.

When you get the convertor they normally have an input flex and a red 3 phase socket, just buy one to match.

When you plug it in youll have to adjust the capacitence sometimes they stutter on start till you get them spinning and learn the different settings, your looking for the generated voltage on the needle to be about 400 ish, it stabilises once the machine is running. Like i said if its a two speed machine try the lower speed first, as youll have more messing with capacitence settings on the higher speed. When the motor first spins they sound awful and are always slightly more noisy on a convertor due to the second phase being generated.

The convertors are very good, the instructions a bit gibberish if your not electrical!

Same as mine black 25mm conduit box on the front with a heavy chock block under the lid.

yep just wired mine up using 2.5mm 3 core flex in to a 13 amp plug and it runs fine
