Welding/fixture table

I need one, badly. The bench I currently do my fabrication on is nowhere near flat, it's made from what appear to be sleepers so I can't clamp anything to it particularly and I just have a couple scraps of 6mm plate on top of it, which also are nowhere near flat

its a bloody good mechanic bench but it's causing me more stress than anything trying to create good work in a reasonable time on it.

Unfortunately my equipment spend is way beyond comfort at the moment so I certainly don't have Siegmund in mind.

Fairly light work, I make furniture...table frames etc so I think the standard 6mm thick will be fine, as much as id like thicker.

I'm after one around 2m X 1m ish...£1500 maybe.

I keep coming back to Mac industries, their pro6 2mx1m comes in at £1440 any thoughts?

I lack the facilities to laser cut the hole patterns critical for accurate fixturing.....which is about 90% of the work!

Laser cutting is surprisingly cheap in my experience, it's currently the material which is the issue.

I'm just suggesting ideas to save you money.

That's cheap given steel prices

I thought it was pretty reasonable. A standard (not pickled and oiled) 2x1m sheet of 6mm is £330, you'd need two...plus the laser cutting.

Don't really get them anymore! They use those plastic things now. I did see one the other day actually and welding table was my first thought.

I had two 1x1s laser cut with holes, pickled and oiled, a year ago for about 30 quid more than the raw material would cost me.

Road plate

I did my table with road plate. Got the used plate very cheaply last year and the legs were left overs from the post I had to put in when I built our gates.

Not a fancy one with clamping holes etc but works great for my DIY welding etc.

If I had that I'd be happy to be honest.

But since I'm buying I can see the value in the fixture holes.
