No all machines are convenient to fill with epoxy concrete as there are mechanisms inside etc
They use stress and harmonic analysis with casting design. Not many castings other than mine are by eye, guessing and luck

Me too. Well a radial arm base. 4x3x3.Am I the only one using an engineers slotted table as a welding bench? Got a couple of these for next to nothing, a gurt one which lives out for the clunky stuff and a neat little 6x4 for in the workshop. Not much you cant do on one of these.

I wonder where the idea of intentional built in stress came from?
With modern FEA this has been made a pretty trivial task.
You would like to think that if you are going to pour a good few grand into a bench you would consult and specialist in iron who can run FEA software properly.
This is why FEA is a whole never level of study.You'd think but simulations are just that, no matter how good they may be these days.
A good example is..
They literally crack right through the very thing designed to contain the crack if it appears...I've seen it. (Admittedly things will be more advanced since the development of the NG and there has been some design changes but it's just an example)
Things change over time, defects in manufacturing, unusual loadings, fatigue etc....structural analysis is just a tool, not necessarily a solution (albeit a VERY good tool), if it were perfect then we wouldn't need things like safety factors in engineering.
