Superglued 3mm sheet alu to my previous error and turning to correct size 74.3mm, which will mean rear bearing will be floating from its seat by 0.3mm.

What is this alu sheet, Ive got a fresh sharp tip and it turns like sticky dogshit, pushing out instead of cutting!

Try an HSS tool with a fairly steep top rake, you can get HSS sharper than a carbide insert. I always seem to have more luck anyway.

Id agree unless you have ali inserts i would just use hss with the correct angles

The ally sheet is probably in soft state to allow it to be worked hence unpleasant to machine

These carbide are Walter branded, ground to a very sharp point for alu. A few have said about HSS but Ive not seen anything close. Have an example?
Carbide can be ground with a diamond wheel unless you mean hss is less fragile?

Chucked up the VDI30 blank holder.

Drilled it out to 38mm with the spade drill.

Then finish bored to 40mm.

Did some chopping off of the excess on the bandsaw.

Trial fit on the turret.

Got some time to mill the rough bandsaw cut finish to size and bore/tap for the setscrews. I decided to do both top and bottom so that the retaining sleeve is held more securely.
I still have to work out the best method of getting the coolant to the capto head but that is for a later date.

Quick hand fed cut on some 50mm dia F51 Duplex to check centre height is ok, seems pretty good although the finish is not the best as the insert was a bit worn, I was feeding via the MPG and no coolant.

It is a DNMG 150408 INSERT.

Headed to the workshop this evening.
First job was to make a peg spanner from an old 17mm deep socket.

It was so that I could remove the left hand thread retaining collar to get the cap screw out.

Next I bored through the side of the cap screw to meet up with the centre hole.

Then I bored through the holder block at an angle.

so that it met up with the centre bore.

I then made a quick and dirty plug for the end.

Then chapped in in.

Set the tool up with the tool arm and did a face cut and OD cut to test things out, happy with both the capto holder and the accuracy of the tool setter arm

Got some grub screws, turned a point to become transfer screws. Rear tool post mount a little closer.

Hacksaw a slot offset from centre on the pointy end then you can use them the other way up as well.

Brazed a damaged parting holder, and a damaged insert I'll try to grind into a face grooving tool.

EN19t scares me. Long stringy chips that have a lot of strength in them. Also curls that get fired down my jumper!

That tool and tip is my preference for hacking out 6082T6 quickish in semi production. Responds well to coolant not splash and plunging in 1/3 to 1/2 the tip width by feel. Will notice it gets the way you say when the job gets hot.

En19 stringer nearly cost me a finger . Two years on still have trouble with it

There is some chatter - turn sound down a bit One of the stringers tried to shoot up my nose!

Have you tried upping the rpm, it might help.
