When I was saying washers I was meaning washers like we use for pulling in cutlass bearings on boats, usually made from 20mm thick plate

Getting back in shouldnt be hard, the rear race can be pressed using the spindle nut and spacers.

Difficult part will be removing the inner bearing races, but thats for next tlweek when I swap new bearings. Now to file down rough part of casting, regrease rollers and reassemble with spacer tube, which is a perfect 72.05mm fit.

BTW you probably know this already but if not then a good way of getting outer races removed from a bore is to run some weld round the inside of them. Let it cool a bit and the weld contracts and they drop out. Obviously no use if there is delicate parts nearby but...

Im not trying that anywhere near the headstock Id end up welding the races in.

Did I say perfect fit? It wouldnt be the second time this week Ive forgotten to zero callipers, I was about 0.8mm off. While I dont like to trust them, they are spot on measuing my guage blocks. Ive discovered the sadle rack on lathe is reading 74mm for 73.23mm which is a fair amount of error. I'll finish my saddle stop soon, so I can mount a calliper to it.

Using up a peice of my cast aluminium and it turns much better than I remeber. It is porus, but it chips of nicely in little C shapes instead of curly pube mess. Plus I can take decent 3mm doc in it

I previously noted the bearing seats appear to be pressed into the casting, rather than direct in the casting. Luckily there is a shoulder and the bearings are up against it correctly.

So now I have these extra parts, they appear redundant. They are identical with the recessed side outwards facing bearing.

What are they for?

Some of the training rigs at work are missing some bits and I'm finally getting round to making them.

1 5/8” - 12UNJ castellated nut.

Great practice with the dividing head. The hex ended up about 20 thou under though because some idiot forgot to divide his finish pass by two.

Didn’t have any 6” round so had to chomp a bit out of square stock which broke my heart, but not as much as buying some in specially for the job

Some years ago I sent a design to a Landrover chassis manufacturer.
They said they were too busy.
Several years later I was watching a action film and saw my chassis in action. I was slightly annoyed and still am.

Once told, a patent is only as good as the money you can afford defending it. Far better to get it out there and at least make some money from it.

Also you can guarantee someone somewhere has done it before!
I patented a new kind of computer joystick when I was 19. Only later to discover it had been patented back in 1880 to control a Glasgow tram!

Jorge Spraeve has an amazing new repeating bow - operates like a pump shotgun. He isn't bothering to patent it. Getting it into production instead.
