A lot of preheat would help. Though you wont find out until its too late

Drill and tap through both pieces in about six places around the circumference. Make some slotted grub screws out of unplated threaded rod. Loctite them in and let it set. Skim inside and outside and you will barely see they are there.

Loctite in a dummy key and that will soften the interrupted cut a little.

Pb1 is leaded bronze, not lead. With split bushes I solder the two haves together before machining. Works a treat. Funnily enough I made a couple of steel split bushes on Friday.Chips like brass?I dont know never turned pb. Looks good.

Pb1 is phosphor bronze it just has a lead content, it machines very much like brass .I forgot Pb was the symbol for lead.. I assumed phosphor bronzeAnyway I thought bronze chiped differently.

I once tried boring a pulley with a keyway, it didn't end well! The keyway caused the bore to go off centre.

I have to take a break from the shop this weekend so I got a couple of hours in before being dragged off. I wanted to bend some aluminium plate 2mm thick and decided some V block tooling for the press would be good!

A very nice finish at 15 thou off radius cuts with a DCMT insert.
No I am not re designing my car's suspension
I just needed a small amount of reasonably hard steel for the Hauser re build. This time there will be a fag packet design.

I've got a burn on my neck from red hot hardened swarf spraying up and getting trapped under my coat.
Caught my cheek too but it rolled off before it could leave a mark. Lucky I always wear safety glasses!

I was impressed by the bluing but the little Drummond has not got the power or rigidity or speed to get them red hot.
I could have upped the feed speed a bit which might have got them to break and fly about but did not want to mess with the change wheels as I was a bit short of time.

When you have a 4 1/2" band saw and 6" angle... you get creative with work holding:
And then to machine it, choose the correct mill (well the one it fits on!)
I had to wear a full face shield as it was spitting somewhat. The old Centec did a great job
