Maybe he uses it for racing or something. I know he told me every 3000 miles and we used to ship it quite regularly. Not done it in a while now thanks to the hassle of Brexit. We have to do it as a temporary import/export. Then the VAT has to be paid. Sadly a Carnet doesn't cover goods travelling for improvement.

A mate had one like that, seemed very fast at the time but now most rep mobiles will out accelerate it!
He sold it as the bulkhead was failing where the pedals mounted, a common fault apparently...

These though very dated now, they were a tremendous motor in that it allowed the 2 kids and a company car type, to be a full blown boy racer.I'm not a huge ford fan, and not a great fan of cosworth YB either, but there's something about a sapph cos... And this one is definitely 80'sthey've aged horribly in driving terms and the chassis was never that great... But look at it! View attachment 426164
I only ever drove one once…..night out in Edinburgh, I was on medication couldn't drink….so Newcastle to Edinburgh, late night and flat out home! Quickest Ive ever done Edinburgh home, and Ive do t the journey many many times!

Its mad to think that the 200hp they came with at the time equated to "absolute rocket ship". Although obviously a lot of them were tweaked up a bit...
In my teens when we all played with cars, the lads in my circle all had a cossie at one point, and i saw so many ovalled bores and rebuilds that i had a real thing against them because it seemed they were a crap engine... Later on i realised it was just the bottom end of the price range came with badly tuned, overfuelled and high milage cars... The SR20s i played with myself all had similar issues.

Probably, Kapton is a registered trademark (3M I think).

Interesting.
My father used to wind armature coils for large motors, and the usual insulation was fiberglass
tape (with some kind of B staged chemicals) & nomex paper.
Stripping the ends for insertion into the comm slot, he would dunk the ends into a lead pot, and then
onto a spinning wire brush.
When they switched to Kapton, he had to use an oxy/mapp torch to burn off the Kapton.
The lead pot would not go hot enough.

Ahhhhh the one i was in was less than a year old, but thats because Im probably as old as your Dad, it belonged to a very old and close friend, who had a far far richer Daddy than me, we were probably about 24 at the time.
He know runs their family business and drives nice pickups.

Aye but they still weren't that quick as standard.
My diesel XF has a better 0-60 time than a 3door cossie!
Modified obviously is a totally different ballgame..
But yes standard they don't hold a candle to modern cars.
