I find it hard to concentrate on the weld though when there are a handful of people shouting at me that I'm on fire.
Guess I need to learn to block out background activity better?

Nice to think she still thinks that way, if my missus saw me in a apron she would think i was gonna do the dishes
Bought a new work bomber jacket the other day made up with it proper heavy duty job thick fire resistant etc, went to my mates place and they had painted the door to the workshop I opened it and pushed it with my hip got black paint all over coat side no problem I thought its black so is the coat, then went straight from there to the rally car had a TINY welding job to do underneath no probs not going back for my gear just do it lying down must have got a sparkly on the paint and I havnt got the paint on the coat now, coz there isnt any coat where the paint was !! typical. just thought the smiles above work for this aswell
Just do what I do go to the local charity shop and buy a leather bomber/ biker jacket with elasticated or press stud cuffs rip out the lining and bingo £10 sorted
generally they zip or fasten up to the neck and are softer leather and a better fit than those horrible fitting welding ones and usually black/ brown not white ( whoever thought of making welding clothes white ??)

Shell suit. Keeps it interesting on those long boring runs.
TBH an old leather jacket is great and any old trousers.
I have a suede grit-blasters boilersuit but that's ruddy hot and heavy for welding- towards 400amp though its sometimes needed and can save those tiny 'ticks' you can get in runs when you get a runaway ball of spatter that wants to try and mate.

Had loads of those brown/burn , snail trails down your chest,it keeps rolling down your belly then into your under pants
then the smell of burnt pubes

Well I have to be honest I just wear whatever I am in at the time - welded in a suit once - it is made of wool...........
Obviously nice leather gauntlets and I am pretty careful with eye protection.
It is a worry though. I never realised for example that an angel grinder can set your clothing on fire. A colleague's girlfriend was quite badly burnt when she was using a grinder on a sculpture she was making and set herself on fire. God knows how she managed that but she did. No idea what she was wearing at the time either but I was horrified when he told me.
I always keep a water fire extinguisher handy now and a CO2 - the water is for me!
I don't weld under cars though - don't think the lease company would approve!

Just my normal working clothes which is never off my back...Always combats on the bottom (son-in-law high up in the forces see,s to that)
and long baggy T-shirts even when welding.Only ware a leather gaunlet on my left hand for positioning stuff and holding the shroud steady but always have burn scabs on my right lower arm but ime a man of the North and can take the pain

I was going to say a posing pouch and silk evening gloves. But thought you blokes would take the pizz
Nothing synthetic, so cotton or wool. Guy working for me was in a T-shirt ( hot climate, I was too ) Asked him if it was cotton. Yes, says he. Set it on fire with an angle grinder, I batted it out, but it reignited, so he pulled it off quickly. Prob was, he was a bit panicky and didn't hold his breath as it went over his head. He was smelling burned nasal hair for a week.
Reality is jeans and cotton polo shirts with sweat tops when colder. Often don't even wear gloves. But most of it is short runs, not the Forth Bridge. I make sure the trouser cuffs overlap my shoes, had few big hot balls get passed the joint. A 'Strickly' winner when that happens.
Only recent burn is from fumbling the toaster oven.

Well....yes. But if you get weld burns from the U-V light, you are risking skin cancer. Even men from the north can get that. Just look at the sun bed victims.but always have burn scabs on my right lower arm but ime a man of the North and can take the pain
