BTW don't rub nothing on burns
Wrong! You should just cool the area and not apply anything to a burn.
Like a say. Had quite a few to say the least . They only dress if all the skin comes off with a special burn dressing to keep out infection. Cool with cold potable water then cool packs. In reality it goes in the quench bucket first because speed is most importantWrong! You should just cool the area and not apply anything to a burn.
I had a reasonable bad one a few weeks ago. Treated at home. Palm o hand I actually managed to sleep through the night holding the cool pack sound asleep woke up in the morning still holding it (bit over the hour). When I was working I was Our squad first aider, Had to have St John refresher courses every couple of years, Their teaching was that the burn (their technical term was a thermal assault to the skin) was to quench the area with cold water for as long as possible, up to help arriving, Even up to an hour, Don't know if this has been superseded since,
and off to A&E.
and the 1 from the kitchen cupboard was next to useless
That'll be 40 miles away......
Was that because all the 'useful' stuff had been used, or the 'wrong' contents had been compiled?
In the garage it's just whatever (reasonably clean) absorbent type thing is to hand then come inside to use the first aid kit.
I'm fairly hot on wearing eye protection to try to avoid damage to sight,
Aye, me too also - but if something wormed its way past the glasses I'd be snookered if permanent impairment resulted. Wouldn't be able to type, watch TV, get on the interweb, or worst of all, read or drive. That'd be the end for me......
