... technically the missus broke it by using it more than me
Nice relaxing Sunday morning....

I bought a top end Whirlpool machine and discovered that the bolt holes were in the mould OK but they plastic welded the drum halves together so you could not service the bearings. And a drum assembly was near £300 so the machine had to be scrapped at about 3 years old and it £600 odd when new.
Budget Beko ever since and it's lasted longer!
....correct ! Like tesco meat counter in the kitchen this morningAdd in the fact that every steel pressing is sharpened at the factory to a razors edge so working on them is guaranteed to slice yourself open!
Another thing to note is that higher end washing machines tend to have higher spin speeds etc to have the clothes coming out dryer.Snap, our Whirlpool lasted 10 years, replacement Beko is 8 years old now.
Its been pretty good TBH, so not too bad...its 12 year old. Lucky we live in soft water area? The drum support spider has a crack in one arm, which obviously is under more load when she's doing towels. This has thrown the drum out of concentricity, which has damaged the door seal. The drum has also sustained some minor abrasion, but should be ok.Snap, our Whirlpool lasted 10 years, replacement Beko is 8 years old now.
I tell the GF to just keep on the 800 rpm max on the Beko and don't use the higher speeds as it really doesn't make much difference to the clothes but makes a world of difference to the life of the machine IMO.
It does indeed - if stuff is going outside on a dry, warm windy day, I don't bother. But hung inside on a cold, raining still day, they get the high speed spin - they dry so much quicker and release less moisture into the house. It does make a diifference. I do my wash on 1200 spin speed, & once completed, give them an extra spin only on 1600.
Using a ceiling airer & dehimidifier as your drier means that any water you can extract via the washing machine helps.
My new w/m by default ramps up to 1400rpm on nearly every selection, so I have to over-ride that down to 600rpm in an effort to make it live longer.Another thing to note is that higher end washing machines tend to have higher spin speeds etc to have the clothes coming out dryer.
But this leads to much faster wear on the bearings etc on a 1200 rpm machine VS say an older 600 or 800rpm one.

Most modern washing machines will only spin at full speed if they can balance the drum, as they have acceleration/g-force sensors mounted to detect how balanced the drum is, to avoid damage should it not be balanced well enough.
I'll never buy Hoover again as it's total built down to the lowest standard tat!
Personally I think its pot luck how long white goods last…..TVs etc the same, I bought 4 identical TVs two for the house and two for our holiday cottages. 3 fine fingers crossed, 1 failed 3 days beyond warranty.Conversely, touch wood, mine's been an absolute gem so far.
Yep. We've a very expensive samsung washing machine, been repaired three times, still really noisy but hasn't actually completely failed yet. 5 year warranty though which i think we've got about another two years of.Personally I think its pot luck how long white goods last…..TVs etc the same, I bought 4 identical TVs two for the house and two for our holiday cottages. 3 fine fingers crossed, 1 failed 3 days beyond warranty.
Washer in the house, on more than the central heating 9 years, washer in holiday cottage, lasted about 30 seconds beyond warranty, though its not been used much, in the house would have probably failed in warranty, tomorrows job to try to repair.
