What MIG to buy (Professional)

Little update (expensive update for me).

Been in talks last week or so about the just released Kemppi Master M 358G with watercooler package, and happy to say it’s arriving tomorrow! So very excited.

Ordered it with the 5meter GX305W torch (300amp, 5 series, water cooled).

At just a touch under £9,500 (RRP), I ordered all the drive roller gears and tips which are very expensive, some new welding wire and coolant etc which added another £2k to final price.

If anyone would like to see me start a thread about it and do some testing be happy to do so as I can’t imagine at this point many people will have the machine.

This machine had everything I wanted, seems to be like a mini version of an X5 Auto which is allot more money!

I am selling my Kemmpi Kempact RA253A if anyone is interest, as I’ve already had to sell both kidneys to fund this.

Had the tig version on loan a while back and loved it but didn’t gel with the tft screen

What didn’t you like, the main reason I bought this model was for the tft screen

I love my Kemppi MLS2300 AC/DC Tig set, sometimes nice simple leds are all you need

I found whilst it was great

I like the quickness of a dial and be able to adjust what I want not set parameters

Ah I get you, totally understand that.

I don’t like super basic machines where it’s all rotary dials and it’s not precise, pain to go back and repeats things, the MLS2300 is in the middle where it’s not sub-menus and all layer out but it’s digital and very repeatable, and as you say the tft with deep menus is not straight forward and needs you to want to learn ever detail of the machine.

Luckily I love complexity and I have the time to tinker with it, so I will be fine, but we will see in a few weeks when I’ve done some welding.

I’ve never mig welded Aluminium so looking forward to trying that, and I don’t think I’ve ever welding with 1.2mm wire, and never spray welded anything before…. So loads of new things to try and learn.

This welder should last me a decade and I can’t image I will ever need more than 350amps. (Other than on Aluminium).

Watercooling is a lovely thing, and that torch design looks decent - sensible to go with the smallest watercooled gun for your needs, far too often people order the biggest guns and they're just no good for delicate work. I like the pistol grip option too. Did you get the remote control module with it as well?

Yes I got the remote to go on the torch, not had enough use to know how useful it will be.
