get a bonnet or door from a scrap car at your local breakers yard
not done any welding today as went shopping then had to cut grass then entertain daughter but i got another plate shaped for the the 2 decent holes i blew through and i took the flux cored wire out and fitted my 0.6 wire and tip and have cut 6 4x2 inch strips for my practicing tomorrow

Believe it or not, in between the blown holes, I think you're actually doing pretty good! Aim is good and the welds look good to me, just need to avoid blowing the holes- and here's how;-
From the amount of penetration, it looks like you have the power up a little too high- bring it back a notch and try Malcolms thin metal technique.
In trying to run a continuous bead across the two thin pieces you are getting too much heat into the butt join, hence blowing holes. Try the pulse welding technique. Tack the two pieces together every 1", then join the tacks with lots of overlapping welds, running a very short bead then pause for a second to allow it to cool a bit then carry on.

The bottom right weld on the first pic you posted earlier today is a nice weld but you've got power to high try max1 if thats too high go back to min1 and turn the wire speed down a bit until it welds ok. I'd also keep practising straight beads until you can consistently produce unbroken beads across your plate.

Try max1 then and see if that is any better. Your welder might actually go up in these steps min1, max1, min2, max2, min3, max3 etc.
Also, if you get burn through, try holding the torch just a fraction back and weld in pulses rather than going for long beads. Can you show us the results on min1?
It is very very difficult to weld long beads on thin metal without blowing through.
cheers guys ive gone throught 3 of them min bottles and am out of gas at the min i spoke to the rep at energas today and a 2foot argon/co2 bottle is about £20 and a 3foot one is £27 the yearly account is about £40 with no handling fee when you return bottles for a refil

i went and got my account set up with energas on friday and came away with a 10 litre bottle i just need to get myself some regulators for the hobby mig to big bottle then i will be doing a lot of practising with pics for you guys to point me in the right direction.

finally got out to car today and had a practice first and was getting no penetration then blowing holes then penetration but very spattery and all the welds had a brown deposit round them
then decided to start on car and looked ok using a mix of short blasts and the thin metal technique and didnt blow any holes till i got to a section that was really thin but managed to fill back in with no probs
only thing i want to improve is the spattery ness and the brown residue
what do you guys suggest

I distrust guage readings they vary too much depending on regulator accuracy and or age
Best thing to check flow is correct is either an in line flowmeter
or
a peashooter.

I prefer the in line flowmeter because I can quickly check gas flow without needing to worry about disabling wire feed but I'm sure the peashooter has just as many fans

Those welds look very much like a lack of shielding gas. Are they also weak, lacking penetration??
Turn the gas up and try to weld where there is less breeze.
Mind you, if you are using pure CO2 you do get some brown deposits, even with sufficient gas. It is Argoshield types mixes that give the cleaner looking welds.

i am using an argon mix and i dont have a garage to get inside
if you look at my gauge i had that set to 8 bar instead of 2 yesterday and still had the brown residue
im doing butt welds and the inside of the original panel has waxoil on it would that have any effect
