I've used Halfords calcium batteries since they came out - probably 20 years ago. 4 or 5 year warranty with a nice trade card price is hard to beat. They used to be Yuasa - don't know about now though.

Another vote for Tayna too. I buy Motobatts for the bikes from there - best price & service I've found.

Never hat troubles with Napa and Varta.
But honestly I don't think there is much difference.

The battery in my 1994 Defender finally got replaced in 2015ish...

I've found they tend to last (I think it's Varta what I usually get) provided you don't abuse them below 11.2V - the moment they drop below that open circuit voltage they are rarely the same again.

The cheapo crappo ones from Eurocarparts have survived intermittant use in my trials car and Lancia - need the odd charge up due to the lack of use.

I think constant use is the key to long life. Intermittant use isn't good unless you keep them on a conditioner.

Yes, 100% agree. Even a really good quality battery does badly if the car sits for long periods with nothing but the central locking /security system gradually polarising it.

I've now installed a battery disconnect on one car, and it really does a fine job of having the battery fully charged even after standing some time.
If for some reason a disconnect is not wanted (on a little-used vehicle), I'm now leaning towards cheap batteries as "disposable" (unless the warranty comes good).

I've been using Yuasa in cars and bikes for a long time with no complaints, had one bike battery last nearly 10 years, I get them and leisure batteries from Battery Megastore who do a quick delivery.

I thought Varna and Yuasa came out of the same factory. The two types of gel batteries we use on karts come from the same source.

The best batteries always are the genuine ones that come with the car. They seem to last for years 6 to 8 is common.

I always say that you are better off going to a car breakers and getting the newest oem battery than buying a Halfords or similar battery.
My VW T5 has the original battery at 12 years old! (prob fail tomorrow’s now )

Varta not finished but not fitting at a New Factory OE spec. Lost new build car contracts.

Been issues with AGM start stop battery coding from VAG group - lack of investment from Varta AG - who are now owned by Energizer Holdings, Inc. from 2019

One thing that seems to be common with the online battery suppliers is they will highlight products that look cheaper. Battey Megastore and Tayna seem to do this. The reality is if you look down the list you will often find a bettery from a top brand will have a higher output/reserve capacity/warranty and will literally be a few pounds more. Sometimes this even happens with the same brand. The last few I've bought have all come from Tayna and have been Exide and Yuasa.

For some cars that extra bit of power doesn't make a difference but others it's really noticeable. We fitted a brand new AGM battery to our D3 when we got it 8 years a go. Never had any issues with but it got to the point where I felt it wasn't spinning over as fast as it should. Stuck a new Exide unit in last winter and it was genuinely like a different car.

Tayna provide and excellent service, good prices,next day delivery and really well packaged.

Yuasa is all I buy , I do get the odd truck battery given though .

I try to buy Yuasa as well - made in Wales!
