The telephone for these guys looks to be the same as york timber products. They'll supply you with whatever you want, or build whatever you want, from any type/thickness of timber. Only down the road from me, i know the owner

if i was building that one id put in an underfloor wood heater using the latest tech that we have nowadays the principle is similar to the rocket stove but done as underfloor heating

what vw1 is building it can run against the wall

I think it is shox might be able to get a reduction here

as mentioned about underfloor heating heres a diagram using the method of heating underfloor using a wood burner

it uses the secondary burn of the wood by using a tube going through the fire and causing a second burn of the flames the idea is simple all depends on how you build it but firebox is advised to use firebrick for the internals
primary air is preheated by the firebox therefore the wood will gassify



the added advantage is once the mass of the materials is heated they will keep the area warmer for longer compared to standared steel built unit

if heating with wood pellets or oil the secondary air is not used as it reduces the drag on the pellets and oil

Some good info there mrfuzzy, the mould is interesting, I have a block made storage shed that is rendered, insulated and ply lined internally, even a double glazed upvc window and still get powdery mould on a lot of the areas, shelves, bench etc.

There is no ventilation at all, in fact I would guess it is one of the most airtight sheds you could find, obviously needs a couple of vents or a dehumidifier in there.

Mine (I have pics of the build - which I will TRY and remember to stick in an album on here)
is tanalised C16 timber
CLS 4x2 for the walls
CLS 6x2 for the roof
Built using timber stud work and lifted onto a blockwork "apron" and sleeve anchored down using 3mm square washers to stop the anchor pulling through the wood. Also angle brackets at the base of the wall frame verticals and twist nailed to help rigidity


19 foot x 10 foot
2.5 metres tall on the high side and 2.1 on the low side, monoslope/pent roof
walls rockwooled 100mm thick, roof 150mm thick
Roof OSB (was given it)
Walls plasterboarded
Walls and roof exterior are sheeted with ply (was meant to be ext...is it flip)
Roof is felted

Studs on 16" centres and several double and tripled boards

Stood me under £1500 (might even be closer to £1200) all in and the old man and I built it over a weekend...
That included
Nails, Screws, brackets
All the timber (£400 IIRC)
Sheeting (£350)
Plasterboard and insulation (£200-£300 all in)
Blocks
Cement
3 tonne of gravel (front garden and a soakaway to take the garage rain run off)

What would I do different?
I'd weather board it with T+G rather than ply (Though I solved the delamination issue using liquid DPM)
First winter I didn't insulate and it suffered badly with condensation and mould
this summer I stuck 2 x 6" fans, one at each end of the long wall and insulated and boarded the place out...dry now.

My old man reckoned it was overspecced, but its not..the wind here just howls at it...doesn't even creak in gale force winds...

Its also easy to keep the place warm, better still once I get the last of the drafts sorted and stemmed better (side door had a missing stop...lot milder once that was put back on...)

Great info and photos help so much shall be doing the same set up come summer.

Well that's decided that, new wooden workshop for certain this year:

Just been into the garage/workshop and condensation dripping off my metal tool racks and the car sitting still soaked from being out yesterday in the rain..

Weather is cold with bright sun, perfect condensation conditions even with good insulation and four wall vents and vents in top and bottom of the door.

The plasterboard ceiling with 200 mm of rockwool behind it is going as black as hell and looks a right mess.

Bringing a wet car [and warm] car into a building with items colder than the vehicle, is asking for trouble, latent hot from the engine causes the water to evaporate condensing on the colder items you have in there.

Leave a car outside. At least for now

Just been to a mates and he has a box full of new 12v pc case fans, happy to hand them over FOC, toying with the idea of making 6 banks of 4, spread around the workshop and running them just to circulate some air, running costs would be zero, the effect would be yet to find out, may make up one bank as a trial and see how much it moves... could use the old candle trick to judge effect.

I understand your point about the wet car but leaving it out is not an option I'm afraid.

Have rang them and pricewise it's 20% dearer than other's but delivery on others would probably eat that up anyways, going to have a ride through one day soon and have a look at their stock..cheers

made mine up in sections 2= 8by4 sheets of ply with framework of 3x2 on the rear
made floor frame of 3x2 covered with tongue and groove floor boards so so 10 sets like this gives you a shed 12x8 the apex ends made up to what height you need I
also covered it in ship lap my only costs was the screws and shiplap and felting got all the ply and 3x2 given old building site fencing
then made the roof up in situ again 3x2 covered with OSB then felt
made this 15 years ago still solid had to re felt it that's all

As you know i live in the boom tang middle of nowhere. I have an account with jewsons hexham from my house refurb. I deal with the rep rather than the shop, delivery free means usually he beats everyone else price to the door. Though i do check his prices....and make sure he knows i do.

If you want cheap they will but 6 x 1 sarking boards through the saw for you. But you reslly want a good solid build. Id use 22mm vertical with the overlap. Or horizontal feather edge. If you have transport there is jacksons in hexham too. But he doesnt deliver.

My big bought shed, is 4x2 frames 6mm ply, membrane and 32mm feather edged boards. Great shed well pleased with it.

Becareful though a big pile of timber sharp builds in price.
