I was hoping to get the engine and gearbox in today but things just took longer. A few things missing so waisted time looking for stuff and then having to go rob it from my spares. Got the steering idler in and tightened the brake lines. Built up the engine hoist, got the engine ready to go in, replaced the throw out bearing, fitted the flywheel and clutch. The cheapo clutch alignment tool didn’t fit so had to hold the gearbox and tighten up the bolts. Still need to change the gearbox cover, bolt on the the bellhousing and then can bolt the gearbox on and fit it. Nearly there.

Did you manage not to damage any paint work ? On your own I find it almost impossible.

I scratched the cross member tabs that the engine mounts to. It got to the point I just had to drop it on them and push it in to align them. I had to have the mount bushes loose to get them in the hole but that also meant they were wobbling around. I had my big jack on the gearbox but it wasn't quite high enough so a little bit of a pain towards the end. It certainly was a lot more tricky by myself. Took a couple of goes to get the angle right to drop it in and then lift the gearbox.

That's the car on wheels and dollies. Big clean next and making room so I have a prep and paint room for the panels. The challenge is to fit three cars in this space, going to be a challenge.

Well that wasn't 5minutes work to get that all sorted. Lots of moving stuff about. More sorting inside during the week and maybe paint the floor in the cleared section before I start on the panels.

Took out this dent this afternoon, came out well and won't need any filler. The goal is to use next to no filler on the car and metal finish any areas that need addressing rather than fill them. Good practice for me. Pic of the tools I used too.

Lovely job. The hearing aid beige colour is nice with the charcoal ARE's. Looks like my mates' car although we went a different route with the motor and box.......and axle....and suspension.

Nice job but not my style these days. I like to work with the original engines these days and I stay clear of current trends as these date the car. I haven't decided what I will do with the engine; original, minor head and cam upgrades, stroke and FI or supercharged. Will see what evolves when she is back on the road.

It's currently only a single Stromberg B20A, but they are a nice torquey engine and with the Stromberg properly setup they run lovely.

Maybe pick up another engine to upgrade and keep the current one as it is? Swapping them around is an easy enough job that you could use both depending on the mood or trip.

Thanks, how much would you like for the SUs? You don’t have any front quarter windows or rear ventilation windows with good chrome do you?

Haven't done any tig for over a year so a wee bit rusty. Welded up a hole and metal finished. Not perfect so will give it a sand when back in and see if the primer will take it up. I should have straightened things out around the hole before I welded it up, was a bit of a hollow.

Thanks yes love it. It's a really enjoyable hobby that puts me in a good mood and love being at my workshop, it's a great space to be in. I crank up the music and just plod away. I'm really looking forward to how straight I can get the body and paint next.

The workshop isn't her favourite place. She just follows me about looking sad wanting to go. She's a rubbish workshop dog.
