I was going to say that, sort of. I had 3/4" in my head as the B/RB deck difference.That sounds like a 383 distributor, the 440 block is .700" taller than a 383.
Do you have the correct crank pulley for the forged crank? I seem to remember there being internal and external balanced cranks on the 440 but I don't have the book to hand at the moment to check what is what.

ime guesing it would have to be a pressurised box pre-carbA friend of mine has done a low boost (sub 7psi) turbo on a 1.3 Polo without lowering the compression, goes really well. I've always wondered what a 383 or 440 would be like with low boost and if the fuel economy would be improved at cruising speeds.
