I was browsing the web looking for books and found a few on shapers. Will be buying a few shortly.

is it me or do you have a half turn click instead of a one click on the cog teeth but turned sideways you have a half click to slot into it ?

None on mine, would like to know how many divisions each wheel has so I can make my own.

edit: Just spotted the bottom one has 170 divs, and looks like the other is 166 divs, does that make any sense folks?

Don't no. But they are nice. The information was e-mailed to me. Would like a set thoe.

Evening guys.
Thought it was about time I cracked on with my alba shaper. Removed the last of the gears and shafts. The large gear has had some serious abuse. Most likely caused by someone ramming it from slow to high speed. The gear is unfortunately cast so repair is a little more difficult .

Ouch. The teeth could be built up with nickel bronze then machined, or even filed back to shape, if you've a spare hour or two.

Alternatively, find a ring gear the same size machine all of the teeth off and bore the new gear to fit. It could be brazed or pinned into place.

Turn the gear off the hub, shrink a steel replacement on (HPC Gears ?) and braze, peg it, key it or whatever

Yes. I think that's the way to go. Machine it down and fit a replacement.

Strangely enough it's fine. All the other gears are good.

As seadog mentioned, pin, braze & file. It's a tried and tested method for tooth repair. Easier to fix and reshape the teeth than machine & modify the shaft and gear. Bar that tooth with the large chunk missing, the rest would probably be fine left as is, if you don't fancy doing the lot.

Yes. It's strange as there is no damage to any of the other gears.

That's that batch of parts cleaned and sorted.
A few repairs and mods to do. The bull gear needs machining. Other gear needs teeth repair . And tailstock. Might just run the lot in to my local machine shop and get them to sort it....then have to listen to the usual hmmmm. Well....The thing is....yerrr...

Don't forget the sucking of teeth. At least you have a local machine shop, have to travel a bit up here to find one of those.

There used to be loads in Colchester. Only a few left now. I appreciate they have to look at and study what you want doing. But all I want is yes we can or no we can't
