Thanks to @Migmac , Ferrex 2.0Ah shell arrived this morning.

The easiest way to graft a Ferrex battery on is just print a female section and screw to the base of the existing battery shell. Bear in mind this is only a 2.0Ah Ferrex battery, a 4Ah will make for a very tall assembly. Seems a bit defeatist too.

The problem with this one is the existing clips on the battery. Ideally they want to be incorporated into the adapter:

The distance between the clips is narrower than the Ferrex battery is wide.:

Currently thinking to ditch the factory clips and come up with something printed. Or ditch the clips altogether, screw the yellow section to the adapter and glue onto the tool. Seems a bit of a bodge.

They've done away with the original DeWalt clips and come up with their own. I'm however attempting to retain the original, yellow DeWalt tower section.

Clearly 3D printed.

I think some of the German tool manufacturers have agreed a battery standard....

It's Bosch I believe who are trying to push a universal fit battery, if you look into it at the moment though it's all their partner companies that are compatible..

Can't see Milwaukee re-engineer all their tools for a Bosch battery personally.

Well...

Overnight this seems to have taken a great leap forward. The DeWalt clip arrangement that I was dreading seems to be sorted. I came up with simple printed clips operated by half a cut down pen spring. These sit between the original yellow tower and my new "base". The design seems to work really well.

Of course, if you clipped this onto the tool as is there'd be no way of getting it off. I've now to incorporate release buttons or holes in the red section. It'll probably be just holes as I imagine this will be permanently fitted to any DeWalt tool. A couple of screwdrivers in the holes to get it off or even a quick 'U" shape, printed release tool that should be easy to come up with.

Next then to salvage the original battery connector that sits in the top of the tower and come up with a print to hold it in place. Likely I'll try and incorporate that sticking up from the red base.

Grafting the Ferrex/Parkside female section is the easy bit.

Then to do a test print on the Bambu and see what support filament can really do.

I made an adaptor to fit Makita LXT batteries onto Bosch tools. I used a bosch battery casing, cut the bottom out of it & a universal makita adaptor fitted nicely inside the casing where the nicads used to be. Wired it up & secured it with hot glue & screws. Works very well & retains the original bosch battery clips. I'll post up a photo later.

The current intent is to retain the existing six case screws, then screw them into the printed bosses in the red section:

At the moment they are just through, clearance holes. The DeWalt screws are quite coarse & "bitey". Thinking these will likely be one use only in the printed medium, before they strip the plastic.

Mulling whether to replace these with brass, heat set inserts or a nyloc nut, set in the underside.

Do some chopping, soldering, screwing & glueing & you end up with this.

I made this so that I could run my old 24v Bosch tools on 18v Makita LXT batteries.

Biggest issue I had was how to keep the original contacts in place at the top of the battery. They were held in place by a battery inside the tower. Then in a flash of inspiration I thought why not replace the battery with a wooden dowel. Rather handily a brush shaft is the same dia as a sub-c nicad cell so that what I used! @Onoff - maybe that would work in the dewalt tower battery?
