In the example I downloaded, the fill was total and I had to EDIT FEATURE to take it down to a 3mm base.

That's because he had created a duplicate sketch to extrude the inner, but positioned this on top of the extruded outline, then extruded it outward even further (so it sat on top of the outline) and then tried to fix it by moving the inner body down so that it was below the level of the outline - this left a void under the central body. Had he just 'un-hidden' the original sketch after the first extrude, he could have used the same sketch to extrude the centre which would automatically have started flush with the back of the outline. (Anyway...)

Also, there's no need to create offset planes for text on a flat face - just draw the text into a sketch on the face itself, and then either extrude it outwards, or deboss it, etc. as you see fit.

Incidentally, the choice of font in the Fusion file may be a problem if it is to be 3D printed above the surface as there are a lot of very thin decorations:

You're quite right of course. In my defense, it's quite a useful technique to do the text on an offset plane as it can then emboss on whatever shaped object you happen to have, including flat of course. And I'm sure the Racer will want to make a proper cup at some point in the future.. !!

I am sure it will be. I think I have a bit of a problem with having white all the way round the sides as I am sure it will be doing hundreds of colour changes.

That's printed in white with just top layers in blue. Aaarrgggg...

Sorry - my comment was mainly aimed at UKRacer as there were (I think) four offset planes in the file that he originally shared. I agree - for non-planar surfaces, it's definitely the way to go.

I've pondered using some sort of remote link like that, but I don't think it really helps with the common stumbling blocks that I've observed with people learning parametric/3D CAD. While it would undoubtedly help with manipulating the software, my personal opinion is that the software is only about 25% of the challenge. IMHO, the Big Thing is the thought process and visualisation that the user needs to go through before touching the mouse. Again, IMHO this is different to 2D CAD / drawing board, and is quite a wrench. For me to help people, I feel I've got to be able to see the 'whites of their eyes' to figure out which bits have sunk in, and which haven't. Much can be done without a computer, even - just a 'thing' to handle, point at and discuss.

Always happy to give it a go if anyone is really stuck though.

Tbh if you simply have a WhatsApp call with someone and draw the same thing at once they should pick up a lot.

My lad will always help as you know.

Bambu studio does not like that one. Although its perfect on screen. Importing it and it goes wonkey.

No worries - its really interesting to learn the different ways we approach these projects - every days a school day!
And talking of other ways of working, if this was my project I would print the outer shell (say 20mm high), and incorporate a lip on the inside to a height of 17mm, and then print the inner shape with the text separately 3mm thick and glue them together. And if the text was embossed that would mean only two colour changes for the whole process.

I don't know about Bambu, but it exports to Orca OK. There are a *lot* of bodies in the model because each letter in the text becomes a separate body. Maybe this is causing the wonkiness...?

Try selecting '3D Print' from the file menu in Fusion:

Select 'Export' in the window that pops up (if if isn't already there):

Then click on the very top of the tree on the left (NOT on the model) to select everything, and then click 'OK'

See if the resulting file imports into Bambu OK.

I am still reading up on painting parts in bambu studio.

My biggest problem is the AMS. 1. It does not like cardboard spools. 2. It's does not like half used cardboard spools. (Although I am yet to compare plastic to cardboard on weight)
3. It is even less happy with cardboard spools when the AMS is fitted on an angle to enable lid to open.

So I am currently printing weights for the spools.

Little did I know exactly how hard it would be. Granted I have been trying to rush, have had very little quiet time and I found a limitation with the AMS.

I exported as a .3mf and it went Barmy.
I exported as an .STL and it seems to import ok if I remember correctly.

I generated a .step file from Fusion and that imported fine, as you can see further back.

What's frustrating is that what's on the screen would have been perfect. Sadly it all changes when imported into bambu studio.

On top of all that is the limited knowledge I have regarding colour changes needed every layer if not coloured correctly.

I am getting spool weights printed currently as its no good having a great model if the printer is playing up...

I use Sunlu filament for this reason. It's a good price and plastic spools. Even if you weight them, the cardboard can cause dust that may gum up the gears in the AMS. With the plastic spools I have had no problems with the unit.

I was also using plastic spools. It's the angle the AMS is mounted to allow the lid to go high enough.
