I was told by a bedford specialist that the air intake and a couple of other bits, indicated it had come down the production line to fuel tanker specifications. I have my doubts as it doesn't have its silencer across the front under the bumper and it was ordered as a multi lift skip lorry from new.

Hi, For tanker use it should have, as you say, front exhaust, closing panel to fully enclose the engine bay and a 'fuel safe' sealed battery isolator switch. That's only the extras I can remember off the top of my head.

The loss of the UK military contract was the real death nail for AWD/Bedford.I remember driving TK's years ok, horrible things but reliable as a stone. The lack of a tilting can on the TK put Bedford out of business and the D series took all its sales
i dont like to point out the obviuos but, thats not stone chip, its schutz which cant be overpainted due to being bitumen basedI dragged the cab out of storage and sprayed some stone-chip inside the arches while they're not full of wheel.
I read some information on this site about the stone-chip paint having a definite shelf-life; it settles and is impossible to re-mix but this stuff -

A lot of the roads in this part of the world are unsealed gravel and the wheel arches take a real punishing.
