My wife has a Suzuki GSX 650F...inline4 and fully faired plus within your BHP bracket and can be found cheap..

What they like handling wise on the twisty roads as I’ve eyed up some 14-16 models and there 3k give or take 500 so would be very tempted on one f them

Very good and the only limits with them is the pegsonly complaint with the wife's bike was the front was a bit soft when i bought it and soon cured by a fork flush and heavier oil

Sounds abit like my current bike soft forks and pegs hitting the ground which was fixed wit moving them back and up

A friend said to me a couple of years ago he had one in his garage, been sat there for fifteen years.
Last year I spent a few hours on it and got it started, was running nice.
Just wondered if they were a decent bike?
Can’t be far of one of the last carb bikes made?

If the price is right and it doesn't need much doing to it - why not Fulfills your criteria and if really nice could well become a classic.

I've got one. I was given it as a spares bike, but it was far too good for that. Getting the carbs on and off is a swine of a job, even with every trick in the book to soften the rubbers. Eventually I got new ones. Bike itself is great and has been problem free for 3 years, a mates been using it to commute for the last two and I dont think I'll get it back. Plenty of cheap spares about too.

In 1990 there were almost no fuel injected bikes, and carbs continued on in mainstream big bkes for more than 15yrs. The Bandit got fuel injection in 2007, one of the last of the Suzuki big-bike range to get it.

Good bikes that won't break your back with a stupid riding position. The rectifier can give trouble so worth checking it's charging, gearboxes can be weak on second gear so check it works hot and cold, clutch can slip when cold like the FZR400 but seem ok once warm.
Just do all the usual checks for an old bike.

Ah that's a bummer I thought they were 90bhp.

92 II was always told , Ive had a couple of them and they are great , Ive a R1200s at the moment and a gs the s is very overlooked .
How about a Deauville as an outsider , or even a Ducati 600ss or again not four cylinders but a change from the norm ,, vfr is missing from the thread so far or dare I even throw in a curved ball and mention a T Max.

I also had a Thundercat. Got rid of it pretty quick. One of the worst bikes I've ever had for servicing. The fairing is brittle and put together like a Krypton Factor puzzle. The wiring is dreaful and not at all easy to follow.

I loved my thundercat, taught me loads about riding. Handled decently but gave plenty of warning before it let go. Only died when I had a head on with a Peugeot 106

What about a grey import zxr400, Fzr 400 etc? If you’re not the size of me (6ft and 17 stone) they’re a hoot to ride. Need to play the gearbox like a piano to keep them on song too.

sv650 are a fun bike, once you get used to v twin engine braking- I had one as a courtesy bike after my thundercat and I kept locking the back wheel up going down the box.

bandits are good fun too, just suffer from being a cheap bike that’s usually faffed with.

wouldn’t touch a Ducati of any flavour if you ever want to be certain of finishing the journey you started.

Fazers are cracking, bit flexible when you start really pushing them but they’ll tea you a lot

What about a grey import zxr400, Fzr 400 etc? If you’re not the size of me (6ft and 17 stone) they’re a hoot to ride. Need to play the gearbox like a piano to keep them on song too.

My boss had a bandit as a courtesy bike when his was serviced a few weeks back

awful bike

I miss my cbr400rr

I’d personally go cbr600 and it will be reliable as hell and hold its money over the suzuki everyday

bikes are cheap due to winter and the financial climate
