Just had a look, it's cheaper than I remembered, the local suppliers usually have a minimum order amount before it's worth them sending the truck out for mine it's about 40 quid. This is Brundle's though so you'll need to add on delivery which is about a tenner...

Out of interest, do you know what FH Brundle's delivery area is? Their delivery page says:

... a delivery charge of £10.00 within our van delivery areas / UK Mainland. Any deliveries outside of our delivery areas will be charged at cost ...​

but I can't find any indication of what "our delivery areas" means - is it the "UK Mainland"? It's a very badly worded sentence that doesn't make it very clear.

I'm not sure to be honest, the branch local to me is about an hour away and they have delivered to me in the past for a tenner. On their contact page there is a list of branches, I'd ring the one nearest to you and ask them. Delivery to me is a pain as large lengths have to go to the container but that isn't a proper address so I speak to someone in branch rather than ordering online so I can explain.

As far as I can tell Bundle's is a national company, I think islands and Highlights might pay a premium but everyone else its just the £10. If you need to be sure I'd reccomend giving them a ring, they helped me out with an equiry recently.

They were brilliant. Virtually next day delivery for a tenner. I have been busy tidying up the so called workshop so that I can crack on and start my first proper welding project.

"So-called" because it is impossible to work in there. I have finally run out of room in all three sheds (and both garages). Time for a cull I think plus I really want to get that massive machine bed welding table up on legs.

I had the 7.5m lengths cut in half so that I can store them in the hall

Meantime I'll be welding this shelving with a simple jig and three point supports. All the table space is currently busy...

Why you should get a bandsaw.

Not for the speed (in this example) but once the angle is set, it makes picture frame perfect cuts. I am planning to make a simple adjustable stand, meanwhile, the stool will do.

I surprised myself how accurately I can knock these out though the proof of the pudding will be in the framing. These are 450mm to the level of tolerance of my vision.

Another half dozen mitre ends. The other end of these will be square cut and I didn't want to keep swapping the vice angle so I'll cut them to length later.

Almost seems a shame to blow holes in them with the Mig but that's next!

Do they produce considerably less shavings than an abrasive wheel or angle grinder? I'm only cutting with an angle grinder atm and even the smallest job seems to leave a mound of shavings over everything.

Less metal shavings/swarf, but much betterer, much less abrasive dust.

I hoovered up all the wood but the steel just got wiped down with a rag and chopped (then wiped again). Deburred the edges which is a pain because there's so many of them!

I am in Ealing, W5. Pop over anytime...

After cutting half a dozen mitre ends, I just needed to chop these to length.

Lined them up at the back. I figure "what's the worst that could happen..."

Incredibly, whatever it was it didn't.

Turned out good.

...and I'm nearly there. Just the fiddly support arms to concoct but I needed to get all the longer lengths done and under cover before the rains cometh.

Got one full 3.5m length and a couple of offcuts left.

Remember to allow for pulling in with box and use the welding wire trick with your squares.

Glad you went with the mitred joint. Open or plugged box section ends look awful imo.
she is some heavy duty gear that for indoor shelving. I’d of gone 1mm wall and attempted to convince a brushed stainless frame (made a lot of stuff like that) looks beautiful once the grain is nicely reinstated especially in the mitred joints.

Finally worked up the courage to have a crack at this. Had to sort out the workshop and the Mig before I could get going, but I finally got going.

Thought I'd get my eye in on some scraps

I won't bore you with the shockers, I dove right in with the main event.

Welds not too good but when it's all tacked up, the last join looked good!

Gotta be happy with that.

Mr Blobby showed up so I was resigned to having to grind this all back anyway.

I started to get the hang of it and the last few welds turned out ok.

Not unhappy with the result.

Now I just need to clean it up and chem black it.

So despite acquiring a ton of scrap stock materials, I couldn't find a sensible piece of 21mm square bar. so I made some.

Just welded up the narrow end.

Hit it with a belt sander.

Square off, bore and tap on the lathe.

Job done.

Just need to make up the cross arms drill to accept the threaded plugs then plug weld them in place. Bit like this:

I didn't want to weld up the cross arm only to discover the wall it's being bolted to isn't perfectly square. Should give it enough wiggle room to fit plumb and square, on a plane with the shelving. Makes transporting it a lot easier too.

It's for a very good friend of mine. If he covers my costs I'll be happy. I couldn't do this for money or it would cost a small fortune.
