The client (a mate of mine) is happy to leave the holes and go with the chem black finish.
Meanwhile my cunning plan didn't work.
I guessed two litres ought to do it (that's all I have) but it just doesn't quite reach the top of the metalwork. I could pack out the sides with <something> or heat and bend the sides but the easiest thing is to build a shallow trench and line it with plastic. A smaller gutter would do it but that's more effort than just making something out of parts I have lying around. I'd also like it to be as deep as possible.
