I appreciate RFA is different, that was just an example off the top of my head - but I’d beg to differ that a ship yard with little or no experience in building cranes would build and install one - mind you Liebherr have plenty of experience and it didn’t do them much good
Yeah i get that but most of these yards have plenty of experience building ultra large cranes for ships, i have seen them being built. They delivered from a Shanghai yard back in 2016, completely built in china a 5000 ton heavy lift ship so i am very perplexed as too why they didnt do it them selves.
Any way back on track.
Perhaps the water suction was miss calculated
It is entirely a possiblity.
Probably though the hook as had a casting fault which has gone undetected by ultra sound or xray, which has then caused failure when sufficent load was applied.
