Today I got the gear box painted and a few other bits.

Today's joyful task was to sort and clean the tailstock parts. Barrel now works nice and the locking mechanism is sorted. Just need to make a new stud and sorted.

More parts getting painted. Had to do a reasonable amount of work on the bottom plate of the tailstock. A lot of small dings that results in a rough sliding tailstock . A few hours on light stoning sorted that.

Is this machine metric or imperial since it’s a Dutch clone? I’m eagerly awaiting seeing it back together. How are you getting on with re-enamelling the data plaques? I like to whack a podcast or some tunes on and the time passes a bit faster when I’m scraping

Imperial. I have cleaned the data plaque. Just got to get a suitable paint . I will tackle it very soon. It's intresting being a Dutch clone as the are a few different models but with a lot of parts and design from the empire.

One thing I did find today was this print of the empire lathe belt adjustment mechanism that operates off the leaver on the front of stand. Now I no how it works I can replicate it.

Imperial. I have cleaned the data plaque. Just got to get a suitable paint . I will tackle it very soon. It's intresting being a Dutch clone as the are a few different models but with a lot of parts and design from the empire.

Appreciated. I have two options. I can spay it black when I find a suitable paint . then get some very fine grit paper 1200 grit. And very gently flatten .this will take it down to the level of the top of the stamping providing I keep it flat.

I’ve tried that after watching Keith Rucker, but it didn’t work for me as my plaques are almost always bent or dinged up. I would recommend using a block of metal as if you use a cork block the sandpaper can sag and touch the middle painted bits and then you have to start all over again.

On my Jubilee grinder the plaque was ally so instead of painting the letters I buffed them up to a bright shine, took a lot of patience but came up good. The tiny stuff was done with a scalpel. The Selecta one was a right pain being two colours, a paper mask and masking fluid carefully apllied along the joint were used as my first attempt using masking tape lifted the paint on the black, to my utter disappointment!

Today I have finally sorted the tailstock and is now ready for paint. The bottom slides have been stoned to remove a few dings. Barrel casing has been cleaned and sorted.

Tailstock now in primer. Got the bearings for the lower belt pulley shaft. And some copper tube for making new oilers for the gearbox and other parts.
