Just had a thought looking at the Trident/Pallas milling machine resto thread, they have a name badge that was interchangeable with cap screws. Perhaps your British Empire Lathe (being a clone of a Dutch lathe) was designed to carry a name badge when sold as the Dutch machine.

That's interesting because I put a post up on another forum I have been on for ages and a chap replied that they use to carry name badges on bits like that.

Nice morning here in Colchester. Sun shining. Hopefully get a lot done today...But my dogs have different plans.

Got the tray cleaned up. Had to weld up a load of random drill holes. It's not the best tray to look at. Hate square corners. It's got loads of heat distortion where someone welded it previous. I will indeed make a new one with nice flowing radius on the corners. But for now it will do.

Could you steal the tray from the student since the headstock is a bit shot and the machine will propably be a spares job anyway ? The Colchester trays are very nicely made.

The Colchester trays are nicely made. I will base my new tray on a similar design.

All the insides are done. Tomorrow I will primer the outside.

Cleaned the bed ways and got a coat of primer on. Bed ways will get a final clean before carriage assembly.

Today I can get a top coat of paint on.

Two things I’m addicted to atm, chocolate biscuits and this rebuild! Loving the updates since I’m rushed off my feet and can’t tend to my own lathe currently, this hits the spot

Glad your liking it dieselkid. I myself am enjoying this build . Now the lathe has been painted I can work on all the smaller items like the tumbler mechanism. And you should be having tea with those biscuits

Today's task was to rebuild the tumbler mechanism.

No parts or bits get left. This plunger had seized . Just full of crud. A strip down and a clean up with fresh grease .job done.
