is the doorways both the same ?

as it looks like you could need a repair on the rear side that needs filling in

Where? It's all sound enough for its intended use. The original steel is 1/4 inch thick, and while a lot of it has rusted away, there's enough left to provide structure.

That's a piece that's been bolted on. Part of the door jam. It's inside the roof frame rail, rather than the upright, which is outside. So the perspective of the camera makes the gap look wide.

No rot there.

One (nearly) complete layer of zinc epoxy on the steel.

And tomorrow I'll do it again. Just the inside. But all of it. Layers. And layers.

Two layers of zinc epoxy. I'll finish around the base tomorrow morning, then will do something else for a bit. Only so much painting I can cope with!!!

with the dry weather coming its also worth considering yours doors

Outer doors in timber, as it arrived, except done properly, sealing against the steel frame. Locking with the mechanism recovered from the other side.


Inner doors are bi fold oak, glazed at the top, sealing against whatever I design when I get to that stage. As it came, really, except done well.

A good thick layer of zinc epoxy. The weather makes the paint set very fast, but I'm happy with this. The paint is no good in the tin.

Done painting for a bit. First layer done. Zinc all over once. Interior twice, and base twice. At least. Next layer will be the jotamastic. Two or three coats of that, I'm going to try using a roller, as it doesn't brush out that well.

Gap filling with pu sealant. Clumsy grindings hiding (not all mine) and filling holes with 2 part filler etc. Details.


Then removing all the filter as I haven't added enough hardener. That wasn't annoying...


I'm hoping to get to the jotamastic tomorrow. But I might have to do a day tidying the workshop.

Some projects take time. Doing one thing a day isn’t the most time-effective solution but it’s far better than doing nothing. Keep going! Your work looks great so far. I enjoy reading this thread and seeing the project develop.

An awful lot of sanding and tidying today. Not much to show for it, but, hopefully, it will make the final finish better.

And not all done, but progress is progress.



And, for the purists, some photos of where it looks like the centre T section upright was double drilled in error, and filled in the factory. Two of the uprights are like this. I've filled the backs, purely to make it easier for the paint to go on and seal the steel.

I have one in the field. I want to make it a summerhouse type of thing. Might even make it rotate on a digger slew ring. But it needs work.

If it's in a field then you can be a lot quicker than I am. Get it shot blast, and spray painted, no fear of disturbing neighbours.

Handily, yes, its in a field. Or my extended garden. And no neighbours.

Even better, it was placed on a concrete pad, so whilst i need of attention, its not that bad.

I think mine had been concreted in to something at some stage, there was lumps of cement between the uprights and the tee section bracers.

I did some tidying on the roof timbers, and started the epoxy mastic layer.

The roller is much faster, and I think as good as the brush.
