Believe me. I know. A standard double glazed unit bonded to the panel would have been cheaper and better.

But management want a train window, so that's what she gets.

This isn't a project that pursues sense.

I'm thinking I might need to re-do the aperture. I've the window in the seal, but it's not sitting nicely, it's not in-plane with the panel. I think the aperture is too small, not by much, but enough. Irritating, but I can't have this thing fall out!

I pass a few of those wagons when mooching about the Yorkshire Moors... but most of them are too far gone even to be used as firewood.

I'm going to re do this. I'll open the aperture a bit. Rustproof it and use a new seal to get it right.

Hi, I've been reading your postings about restoring a BR 12-ton vent wagon to use. I have a similar project, but this van has sat in a field at the farm and now sits on a concrete pad and steel tubular frame. My challenge is I don't have welding skills and I need to secure the uprights back onto the original iron base... you're not too far away in Gloucester and I was wondering if you'd be able to help me? In return, I'm a dab hand with wood and electrics, plus I used to work for a model manufacturer so I have the artwork to properly ain't and stencil these wagons! Tim

No. Honestly, I'm snowed under with projects, and fighting depression at the moment. If I wasn't, I would.

But, start a new thread, so we can see the work that needs doing. Buy a chunky inverter stick welder and learn, what's the worst that can happen?

I could call over and take a look, but it won't be for a while, unless I happened to be in the area. Shame you didn't post earlier in the week, as I was in Abergavenny yesterday, and could have diverted on the way back.

Hi, Thanks for the reply - and I'm sorry to hear about your depression too. For some reason, I thought I'd asked to be notified when someone responded and that did not work - so I'm 14 days late to respond. As the black dog lifts, and the other physical ailments retreat, I find I have a spare day, space in the workshop, and time.

So, back to the window.

I measured the whole lot up again. And it was dire. No wonder the window didn't fit.

Don't work depressed folks.
