Well, the window wasn't smashed. .

But it was a close run thing. I was very tempted to introduce it to a 20oz hammer.

Anyway, a day wasted and a load of window seal turned into junk.

I can't see how is relevant? As they have all been measured at the same.

The issue is I'm not very good at this, and the aluminium frame is binding in the seal, rather than sliding into it. The next plan is to do that bit separately then do the rest.

Hi, i have used paracord for fitting the style of window you have on a few vehicles.
Fit the rubber to the Glass/ aluminium frame, then run strong cord in the rubber grove for the frame side so that the cord crosses over in the middle of the longest run. get the whole assembly sitting over the opening, pull he cord through the frame opening, then slowly pull the cord perpendicular to the opening, pulling the rubber seal with it.
This is quite a good vid that shows how it works.

Oh and the wire centre trim tools are a pain.

Did you add some fairy liquid to the water?

When Mike helped me with my Defender windscreen the water doesn't need to be hot but the longer the seal can stay in there warming thoroughly the better.

Silicone oil. I used a lot. I'll use castor based rubber grease tomorrow, do the aluminium frame first. It's an awkward shape, with the opening window.

Success! I think it's done. The problem is the window opening hardware prevents putting the whole assembly down for easy working. So another portable bench was deployed and that made it easier, that, and lashings of washing up liquid.

Of course the first time I did it, I had the seal the wrong way around, so that was a morning wasted, but there you go....

I've left a bit of the inset strip as excess, as I expect it to contract.

Top panel edge with O seal

Strip rubber along the sides

L shaped rubber along the bottom

Not the greatest craftsmanship in the world, but only where unseen, and quick!

I'll let that set until Thursday, then fit the window frame.

I was bored this morning, and had a spare hour.

So I stuck the frame in. I may have stuck it in up side down.

Back from magnetic radiation brain blasting, and, after a break, and am thinking about the doors of the wagon.

Before @gaz1 gets too agitated: These are the BEFORE pictures.

These will be the outer doors. Just providing weather proofing for the inner doors when locked up. They'll spend a lot of time snecked back out of the way.

First problem. The old doors are too narrow. The gap is 63 7/8". The doors together come to 59 1/2".

So I need more timber, and of similar character.

Shouldn't be too difficult. I'll go to the light-side DIY next door tomorrow.

Station management is suggested using the original doors from the other side.

Not convinced the old doors have any economically salvageable parts.

But that's never stopped me.

Interesting construction. Wooden frame and brace, 1/4" ply sheeting. Some good carpentry. I'm not a good carpenter, so shortcuts may occur involving epoxy glue and hidden steel.

But, in summary: scrap the ply, rebuild the frames, plane away the top layer of paint and thin them a bit. Paint with the anthracite grey, then clad exterior with the modern floorboard t&g, Osmo light oak. Interior with 7mm Vee sheeting also Osmo.

That's a good sympathetic rebuild.

if you want take a look at plastic cladding as you can get it in many colours like the plastic decking

it looks like the old wood type of wood stable doors its what many of us use on steel gates

I have just had the cladding replaced on the bungalow and there is enough left to make a matching garden gate. I have never made a steel gate before (plenty in timber) so looking for inspiration, pictures and advice on box size and material selection if you can help?
