it has to be a loverly view in summer where you could open up the windows and sit there

only thing missing was a window seat there instead of having to sit on the windows sill itself

I spent a bit of time playing with the outer planks this evening. I'm going to check tomorrow what the alignment with the bolt holes will be like, but it's going to be either with the tongue and groove in the centre, below, or with the centre of a plank in the middle. I think this is going to work.

I used to make similar oak doors and used copper washers so they didn’t stain the oak..

This is after taking 4mm off the plank:

The previous owner didn't paint the steel hinge.

Part of the patina now....

The hole alignment works best with the plank gap in the centre, only one hole in the wrong place, splitting the gap the other way results in two holes in the wrong place:

Anyway, I'm having I ripping time:

I'll do a chunk of sanding this afternoon, and, hopefully, will have paint/oil on this evening. Recoat tomorrow and fit Sunday???

First sanding done. And some filler on the last few bits of damage.

I've to relief the backs in a few places so that the panels are flush to the frame. I'm going to glue these in, so might be Monday before they are back on the wagon.

Rebating the back of the planks took a bit of time. But everything is (mostly) level now so worth doing.

Everything has had a second sand and I'm finished for the day. Tomorrow, we paint! Or roller. Or something.

Sadly, though, my favourite sander is unwell. It's had a hard life. It's working at 1/10 normal speed. If I've the energy, I'll see if it can be fixed.

Rollering. 12 hours drying time. I'm going to let it dry, then do the frames in the 2k.

I'm not going to assemble these tomorrow, I'll leave to next weekend, as I want to clamp the wood to the frames, and am concerned I'll mess up the finish.

So, I'll let dry for a good while.

Anyone know if you can get slate roof tiles without holes? I'm looking for two at least 15" x 8.5" for the sign boards.

yes you can buy new slates without holes

if you want thicker slate buy used and buy bigger than what you need to trim off where the holes have been put through

These are the elm bash panels. This one is in decent shape, but lots of splits and distortion. I'm thinking of selecting few of these for the inner side of the doors.

I may not have figured out the floor correctly. I've the steel joists about two feet apart and my plan was to bolt the wooden joists to these. But that's too much of a gap for the floorboards.

I'll have to add an in-between joist. Somehow.

wood either side and fit another beam in would be easiest soloution or 3 noggins and 2 beams 1 either side will support the middle better

noggins will still give the distance of being too much
