Ah. Ok. I stand corrected. I always had it in my head that boatbuilders bent the wood in the steam but I think that was just my incorrect assumption!

I thought this too, which put me off, but clamping within five minutes is fine apparently. It's not quite thermosetting.

I've a couple of old warped doors that I need to straighten.
I'll start a thread when I start on them, because I'm going to need a bit of help and advice.

I think I'm nearly there. The worse bowed side has gone straight, or even a little the other way. But the originally better side has gone back into a bow. I've clamped it and will leave it overnight. It's not bad but any improvement would be welcome. I might just play the steam over it in the morning and clamp it.

But, yep, one and a half inch, well seasoned oak, and the steam allowed it to be shaped. Result!

Some very clever stuff out there!
The key is the steam machine, everything else was just scrap timber, nothing precise. Leave the box on a slope so it drains and leave it to it.

You could always nip down with your trailer, we can extract my 2t surface table clamp to that to straighten it and then return the table

That's certainly one option, bit worried that the oak would warp your table....

We're there. I left it clamped until today. It's slightly bowed the other way, and I'm happy with that as I expect it will unbow in time.

The plan for today is to get the acid on both remaining doors to remove the stains. Then carpentry to fit the handles. And, maybe, varnish tonight.

I'm Indian. Well, I've had a lot of curries. And am 1% from Northern India. The rest is English and Scottish. DNA, I donno.

Anyway, no polish blood. But lots of sand. Or sanding. And oil, or varnish. And filling of divots in oak.

And, after yet more sanding, some filling and then hand sanding. A good oiling with Osmo.

While that's drying I fitted some more plasterboard. I'm not getting better at plasterboard. But it's up.

I'll do a proper tidy tonight then start making the plasterboard good in the morning.
