oh man! keep trying I say!
I dose make you wonder how 20’ lathe beds where cast successfully when it seems so difficult to produce such a small casting successfully.
It’s such a shame after all the effort you’ve put in.
I think the same thing though even seventy years ago Holbrook had foundry trouble which slowed production.I dose make you wonder how 20’ lathe beds where cast successfully when it seems so difficult to produce such a small casting successfully.

Perhaps that’s why the best machine tool manufacturers had their own foundries, metallurgy depts and scientists.
Monarch bought out dsg mainly to get their world class foundry and metallurgy.
Reacted the only way I could with a sledge
My old man used to say that because the foundry and forge masters knowledge couldn’t be quantified as a qualification it was seen as nothing by the idiots in chargeThats because the people making the decisions had worked their way up the ladder, they understood the problems and how to over come them.
Then someone had the bright idea to put the bean counters in charge, all of a sudden you didn't need to know what you were doing so long as it increased the balance sheet bottom line. The men that would have the knowledge stayed where they were On the tools, to do as they were told and not to question higher up the pay scale.
The writing was on the wall, usually the bog wall
I could have put resin in but I’m a few grand in to have four good straight edges, I snapped literallyIn a way it's a shame you did that although I understand why. Rank amateurs like me could have used that as a straight-edge.......

Feel really sorry for you, we had the same S**T with the driving wheels.
Dad had taken over 3 days machining to get to this point ..only to find these holes right on dimension ARGH.
So they had to be re-cast..it was really soul destroying
Picture someone sent me of some myford factory straight edges

Rick King carries one of those triangle pieces around in his bag. He uses it to check small cross slide and compound ways.
One of the guys I took a scraping class with has scraped some in. They are really beautifully done:

Don't check out his workshop it'll make you sick with envy
If you’re talking about Richard King he highly regards himself as do his followers. Is he the Surgeon

In rebuilding circles he’s considered a salad tosser
No any workshop that’s clean and tidy is not a pro’s‘Haven’t a clue what he gets up to. Just know he has a meticulously clean workshop with lots of very expensive toys. I Dont even know if he makes anything with it all
Is he the Surgeon
Indeed he’s far too good to be a pro!Yes, he's the surgeon. No, it's not Richard King and no, he's not a pro but a highly talented enthusiast.
How many people in this age have built a boat, and built a steam engine to power it, and have enough confidence in their construction to take their family out on the lake in it? Not many I'll wager.
Indeed he’s far too good to be a pro!
