New foundry phoned up to say he priced castings wrong and wants another £500 and he’s done another four I didn’t want at the revised price.

I’m going to burn the above patterns in my stove tonight

I used a pattern maker in Peterborough for some of the locomotive components.
He used various foundries and you used to get him make the pattern (obviously) and then get quotes from the foundry. He's then let you know the prices ect.

Things had to change though, the stuff coming back from the foundries had issues. He'd get caught in the middle and as he'd instructed them
So his liability insurance said enough was enough. He would in future only supply patterns and a list of foundries that you may or may not get quotes from.

£500.00 extra Why? are they Covid 19 sensitive, or have you charted a plane to bring them back from Australia. You have a business, therefore you have a solicitor, use them pressbrake1.
When you ring them make sure the patterns are OK, then get your solicitor on it, making sure they do not try to sell off the ones already made, plus getting your patterns back of course. Good luck.

keep looking for a new foundry?

there's one 5 min away from my work, I used them twice before, they were really good and I was surprised how cheap they were

I went back... (a few years later) they're only working with aluminium now :-(

I tried 2 different places in sheffield after and both produced junk :-(

That’s the big problem, most foundries have given up on iron because fuel is so expensive.
Tried two other foundries and to say they were poor was a understatement where this place is superb.
I was having a chat with mr k and he said even in America finding a iron foundry that produces engineering grade work is nearly impossible
