Caution ........a convicted criminal is operating in the site

Today I have become a convicted criminal .
The speeding ticket demand arrived this morning . Seeing folk are getting slapped for £700 or more for contesting the darn things we decided that £100 and three penalty points on my licence is a cheap escape .

What irks me is that the vast majority of time I religiously stick to these draconian speed restrictions and set my speed limiter to 1 mph below the prescribed limit .

I've re run the route several times and find the signage is very erratic using both blue and yellow background signs and no road marking in the area I got trapped.

Perhaps I mistook a blue sign for a change up to 30 mph when in fact it is still 20mph ..that would leave me open to driving without due care and attention in a court hearing & I'd get slapped for my impertinence .

That there is clear evidence of reckless driving, I was going to say stupidity: doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome but I think reckless covers it, just wanton abandon. I too was "done" a couple months back coming out of Swansea. Doing 39 in what is now a 40 limit and it only went down to 30 for a short while. Aware that mugging the motorist had become a national sport in Wales didn't help, they still got me.

During the bird flu they had signs outside there farms and country houses "tourists and bikers go home" Me being self-employed i was able to get out and estimate jobs on my bikes up near Snowdonia and the surrounding areas at the weekends

ahh but its not the first time you've done it, (or within 3 years), or they let you do a refresher course and no points

Ive just been mugged too, I was in a bus lane at 8.57 on a Sunday morning...... now its not on a road I normally use (A647 between Bradford and Armley) but it looks like in some areas on that road the bus lane is signposted as being Monday to Friday only, so I thought that part of the sign was missing further down the road, and it looks like that is a bus lane 24/7.

Speeding no tolerance, your licence gets suspended anyways, how long depends upon the speed above limit, we are talking about weeks
Red light crossing, same thing.
Obviously there is still to pay a ticket and penalty points

I used to go to Wales a lot. I won't even entertain the idea now. We have enjoyed our holidays there and when my daughter lived there we went every couple of weeks.
The chance of losing your licence just driving around being a tourist puts me right off.
We looked at buying our retirement cottage there (my grandparents on both sides are Welsh) and I am so glad we didn't.

Look to the long term, it'll become such a terrible place to drive that the second home owners will sell up and locals will be afford to live there again.

Why anyone wants to live in such a dank and dreary place I really don't understand.

I am there a few time a year and think the 20mph zones make sense, from what I have seen they only apply in towns/villages. They seem to let you down slowly, like on some of the B roads are 50 reducing to 30 then down to 20 for a few seconds where there are a houses/schools and then back up to speed. Must be much nicer for the residents.

Speeding is an absolute offence so unless you're aware of a technicality there's not much point going to court and risking a heavier penalty.

It wouldn't be due care though unless they could show that "your standard if driving falls well below that which a reasonable driver would expect".

To be fair red light running deserves a good penalty. It seems to have become “the norm” and it is nothing but intentional. Absolutely no excuse.

Same in my town, a daily sight, several drivers blatantly shooting through the red after it had changed.

Yesterday I was behind 3 cars at a pedestrian crossing, once the crossing had cleared all 3 simply drove through the red and carried on down the road.

I’ve not been to Wales since covid got us English banned, but a few of my biker mates say it is atrocious trying to ride at 20mph through the numerous roads where it logically and sensibly should never be that slow.

Quite a few small towns and villages in France have speed limits of 30 kph, which is less than 20mph. However, they are offset by having miles of open and virtually empty roads once you get out of the limits.
