I’ve not been to Wales since covid got us Brits banned, but a few of my biker mates say it is atrocious trying to ride at 20mph through the numerous roads where it logically and sensibly should never be that slow.

Quite a few small towns and villages in France have speed limits of 30 kph, which is less than 20mph. However, they are offset by having miles of open and virtually empty roads once you get out of the limits.

Yes very hard riding Wales currently, my FJR1300 has a discrete plate flipper which gets deployed a lot when over that part of the world

All these 20 limits will improve public transport as all drivers will be banned, the busses will be in high demand!

That will only occur in the urban areas,the vast majority of wales is remote countryside.

The review of 20 is not going to be a simple reversal, local people have to "badger" the council in enough numbers for them to consider it. Removal of any speed limit signs at night could be construed as badgering I guess?

I've been on the run from the law since 2010 when a PCSO stopped me for riding my mountain bike on the pavement , he wanted to fine me and I said when you catch up to me I'll pay it and left him standing there, the 56" waist trousers he was wearing made me gamble on him not being that nimble.

I am there a few time a year and think the 20mph zones make sense, from what I have seen they only apply in towns/villages. They seem to let you down slowly, like on some of the B roads are 50 reducing to 30 then down to 20 for a few seconds where there are a houses/schools and then back up to speed. Must be much nicer for the residents.

They must be the quiet residents, because the amount of animosity towards the limits from locals seems to be drowning out those that want it.
I have no problem with 20 zones where they are needed, our village is a mix of 40 and 30. If they put a 20 in it with the sole purpose of raising revenue, the locals would soon complain too.

Aged 57 and a bit - I have never bagged a speeding ticket - not on a bike or in car/van.

Wifey has had a few over the years...

I think the reason I have not had any is - I am a real low annual mileage driver - real low - sub 2500miles.

If we go anywhere in the evening - wifey normally drives so I can drink.

I only have tiny small motorbikes now for 1.25mile commute to workshop.

Most of my driving is short roadtests in customers cars and trips to supermarkets/screwfix/wickes - shopping.

If I go on holiday - I either go by train or get a taxi to the airport.

To be honest - all my mates just assume they will be driving and never suggest I drive (as I hate driving to be honest).

Less miles you drive - the less risk of getting a ticket.

You should all move to Cambridge, there’s nobody enforcing speed limits, parking , untaxed, no MOT , insurance etc!! The standard of driving around here is abysmal.

I used to go to Wales a lot. I won't even entertain the idea now. We have enjoyed our holidays there and when my daughter lived there we went every couple of weeks.
The chance of losing your licence just driving around being a tourist puts me right off.
We looked at buying our retirement cottage there (my grandparents on both sides are Welsh) and I am so glad we didn't.

Problem is it's being rolled out across England now.

This is not new behavour, I used to live near there 20+ years back and in a box van in for work and on a bike got done for 58, which went 60->30 for a village with 1 house and a petrol station with a lpg tank that the coppers could hide behind, then 100yards up back to 60. I was with a group of bikes in a close group going a show in Wales and everyone else just gunned it and left, but being the good person I am I stopped, because my speedo showed 30mph and I had slowed down to the back of the pack. And the plod told me he was doing me because my friends sodded off and the speed was one of them anyway. Lesson learned for sure, dont go to Wales, dont deliver to Wales, spend money elsewhere.

When main arterial roads have 20mph sections where its open, wide, no houses crowding the roadside,no schools, no shops, pubs, parks, doctor surgery etc (& virtually zero foot traffic cos there is sod all to walk to) - its ridiculous & maddening. 20mph is no "nicer" in such scenario's to anyone but the GoSteal Bandit lurking there to pick the pocket of drivers being completely responsible.
Trust me - if you lived where I do and where you have to drive with one eye constantly on the speedo, while scanning every roadside potential hiding place for a bellend with a hairdryer, or a berk in a Scamera Van..... you'd soon alter your view.
Given that our current "Administration" (its the least offensive title I can think of) are hell-bent on bringing the same war on the motorist to the rest of the UK - you may well find out soon on your own doorstep.

Your feelings and choices are happening quite a lot if what you see on social media is in any way an accurate barometer.
The projected cost to the Welsh Economy & its domino effects over (I think it is) the next 5-years of the Blanket 20mph policy is estimated at £9 BILLION.
A nation that outside of Cardiff is almost entirely dependent upon private transport, and has a massive reliance upon Tourism, chooses to alienate visitors, and then prey upon those who do come, to make certain its an experience they will not wish to repeat.
It's so ridiculously cretinous that if someone wrote it as fiction - it'd be dismissed as too far-fetched!

Ive just been mugged too, I was in a bus lane at 8.57 on a Sunday morning...... now its not on a road I normally use (A647 between Bradford and Armley) but it looks like in some areas on that road the bus lane is signposted as being Monday to Friday only, so I thought that part of the sign was missing further down the road, and it looks like that is a bus lane 24/7.

Not so Optima .... it is the fact I went 13 .2 miles an hour above the prescribed 20 mile an hour limit . You do not get the chance of a refresher course , the penalty notice said " we will decide upon the course of action . If I had done double the limit I guess I'd have been hit with a much bigger fine and 6 points put on my licence

They can't get drivers on the £ 12.5 K per year starting wage in this area.

Our refugee gal Olha says getting a bus into Ammanford then one to to Carmarthen takes her about three hours each way , before the new limits it was under 2 hrs each way . None of the bus times are syncronised to make connections .

In Canada 23 yrs ago you rang a central booking office number the day before to book your journey & the computer sent the right bus to your door at a given time to get you to your destination at a given time .Same with the return trip . No hanging about in minus 40oC or blizzards or slashing ice cold rain and obviously by the same effect your shopping was dropped off to your door with you . White van deliveries are on the up as folk forego taking their cars into towns not just due to the speed limits but the rather expensive parking and penalty's for over staying or being a bit outside the allocated parking space or being on the line in some cases. ...... . a bit of a sod when all spaces are smaller than our car .

Don't go to Swansea then , the signage is erratic and nonsensical . It seem to be that anywhere there are council houses there will be 20mph limits big time even if the road , footway & verges totals are 60 foot or more wide .

Even here 18 miles away from Swansea not far from my home it is 20mph for four miles then 30 mph for 200 yards then back to 20mph for almost four miles then thirty for 200 yards then 40 for 200 then 50mph for 100 then 60 mph for 1.5 miles to just before Pont Abraham roundabout at the start of the M4 where 50 mtrs or so before the roundabout it drops to 40mph IIRC . You'd be a bloody fool to try and take that roundabout at 40 mph & do it in safety

Junction of Gors Avenue , Dewi Terrace Town hill Swansea , follow the route along Gors Avenue from the dual carriageway going west the speed signs are still the same differing colours & it's where I made the error of thinking the limit had changed to 30mph .
