Junction of Gors Avenue , Dewi Terrace Town hill Swansea , follow the route along Gors Avenue from the dual carriageway going west the speed signs are still the same differing colours & it's where I made the error of thinking the limit had changed to 30mph .

It's utter lunacy DAPPH.
One of the truly cretinous ones is on the main arterial route between Carmarthen & Lampeter - the "village" (really just a string of properties scattered along the roadside, nearly all being well off the road) of Rhydargaeau.

A few years ago millions of £ was spent on improvements to what was a narrow and awkward route in sections. As soon as they did so, Carms CC reduced the national limit to 50mph max, and dropped lots of other parts to 30 & 40mph.... so they made the road wider, safer, and then made the journey slower than it was before. A total waste of money given they were slowing the entire journey anyway.

With "20mph" it's got ridiculous. The section through the above village as an example (from leaving Peniel the previous village which also has a daft random jumble of limits)....

That is nine changes of speed over a distance of about 1.5 miles. NINE!
Some are so short that they are little more than acceleration or deceleration zones.
The 2nd 20mph zone appears just as a vehicle leaves a very short 30mph..... but it changes right on a downhill curve, and just as you come into line of sight of GoSteal's regular Scamera spot.

There is a petrol station with a small shop set back off the road as you approach. There is pavement for the (extremely rare) pedestrian safety.
There is NO other services or facilities through this section, & its too far from anything to walk to (hence the practically zero foot traffic). None.

This is just one crazy example among hundreds, if not thousands of similar (I drove through Penderyn near Hirwaun/Merthyr yesterday... its as wide as a main A Road with huge pavements & properties set well back - but a pointless, glacial 20mph for miles).

The power-crazed mouthbreathers that are wreaking havoc & ruin upon the nation simply aren't fit to run a bath, let alone a country.... and need removing.

Don't go to Swansea then , the signage is erratic and nonsensical . It seem to be that anywhere there are council houses there will be 20mph limits big time even if the road , footway & verges totals are 60 foot or more wide .

Even here 18 miles away from Swansea not far from my home it is 20mph for four miles then 30 mph for 200 yards then back to 20mph for almost four miles then thirty for 200 yards then 40 for 200 then 50mph for 100 then 60 mph for 1.5 miles to just before Pont Abraham roundabout at the start of the M4 where 50 mtrs or so before the roundabout it drops to 40mph IIRC . You'd be a bloody fool to try and take that roundabout at 40 mph & do it in safety

Not saying it’s perfect but the general concept of slowing down where there are houses/schools is a good one, around here folk will do 40mph in the 30mph limits and that is not good. Way too many old folk,children, pets and wildlife mown down on our roads these days all in the name of a journey shortened by seconds.Just my take on it

It's absolute lunacy around Swansea, my wife constantly reminds me of the speed or i would forget, I'm still not sure how i haven't been caught, the funds going into the welsh office ... err London must be huge and no down turn in A+E victims

I had one from Wales. 70mph in a Transit on a dual carriage.
Accepted the points and fine.

Stuffed up the paperwork their end, tried doing me for failing to provide licence details about 6 months after I thought it was settled.

A heap of evidence and a letter to the court pointing out Dyfedd Powys Police's ineptitude and it was thrown out.

Tomorrow I have my "Speed awareness course" for doing 39mph in what is now a 40mph road coming out of Swansea a couple months back. The whole saga could easily have been avoided if the owner of the vehicle I had borrowed had simply paid the main dealer the £450 they wanted to update the onboard sat nav. Stingy bugger hadn't! (equally, if i had bought the £8.00 mobile phone holder I could have used Google maps!)

Ours don't give a toss about whether you've got a ticket or not. What they don't like is if you try to hide the fact.

Same with other forms of clearance - they don't necessarily mind if you've done something bad in the past, what they don't like is you trying to hide the fact. People who are up front and honest about small things (no matter how trivial) tend to be up front and honest in most things.

I might have got done on the drive to Lyme Regis yesterday, uphill into a 50 limit so everyone's obviously accelerating I saw the sneaky little bastard in the van and automatically stamped on the brakes (road safety is paramount remember) got shouted at by the missus as she didn't know what was happening, called them all manor of Cxxxs and got another bolloking from the missus
The speedo was reading about 40mph during all this so I'm not sure what speed I was doing but it can't have been much over if at all

Must admit, when this subject comes up I usually think speeding law should be "no harm no foul"- like, there was no crash, no people hurt, no damage = no penalty...
Obviously if there IS Harm, then throw a much bigger book at those causing the harm/injury...

However, everyone knows there are too many tossers who would take advantage and scream round everywhere like their **** if on fire, and there are also too many pedestrians -and sheep - and entitled karens/kens - and cyclists - and just_stop_oilers- and other numpties - who think They own the roads and are happy to get in the way of traffic...

And youtube (and "car-crash-tv" programs) is full of videos demonstrating the huge number of jaw-dropping bad driving already going on, which we often witness personally, too.

So after an inevitable spate of bad events we would soon be back where we are now.

Speed limits do indeed have their benefits so long as they are in the right place at the right speed limit and are operated at the right time . This blanketing 20mph does nothing to encourage the people with responsibility for children to teach their charges , consideration , self preservation , the highway code and safety for crossing or using the roads . Similarly with the infirm or damaged minds , it used to be & may still be that in Germany they have to have yellow arm bands which must be worn when they are out & about .

Do that and there would be far fewer injuries or deaths by & on our roads.

It appear to be the other way around .
I feel it is now much more common that jaywalkers & kids on electric scooters and powered cycles or mini motorbikes cycle coming off the pavement etc. suddenly walking or riding across legally driven traffic or those who are walking / riding without lights or much awareness of the dangers or care on roads in dark clothing with their back to the traffic .

Being on the roads requires care & attention plus awareness of all users not just one particular group .

Often in the ones I’ve been fed it would appear the folk with the cameras are the ones doing the bad driving …. Not spotting hazards, not anticipating etc. Almost like they are driving around with their cameras looking for trouble !

Being on the roads requires care & attention plus awareness of all users not just one particular group .

And watching speed limit signs constantly of course, which is undoubtedly counter productive to the stuff you've listed. Which begs the question - why impose it?
