Note for these 3" grinders, none of the tool shops seem to sell discs or flap discs so if you run out or break them, you'll be waiting for amazon/ebay.
Got these for the 3", no longer available. I see a not so positive review has been left recently
I'd recommend this. Today was using it with a carbide burr to eat out a recess.in timber.
Also bought a set of these, but note its a silly imperial thread and 1/4" shank and havent yet got around to modifying. They dont fit either grinder as standard.

Always used blue spot 75mm on my air and plug in.

You can get those with a 6mm shank too.
I have the same one. Not lots of power so let the disc do the work etc.
I've used mine quite a bit, & expected it to die pretty quickly, but it's kept on going.
I used it last to cut out the metalwork on my van I was camperising for the windows (it was easier to manage & follow a line carefully than a 4.5" with a lot less sparks flying about, and way better than a jigsaw trying to snag & wander off line. Its not a job you can get wrong, so a bit more time and care with this wee thing did the trick).

Well, mine's here. I had in mind that it was fairly big, but it's not (fork for scale).

Is the Hitachi Magic Wand not made in Japan?
It's the price they are made to, makita batteries may be made in china but I would trust them over the knock offs from the same country. If you search for lithium fires it's not the big brand power tool batteries but the off brands along with phones, dell laptops, vapes and user error.

I understand the point, & I have considered the point myself, in the past. There are merely so many items we possess which contain batteries though, that one would be limiting themselves by overly worrying on that point, & only going with big brands. Some items we wouldn't have if we didn't buy unbranded gear.

Well it has arrived, instructions =
Photo 5 shows lock (red) you lift it up to lock spindle dont forget to turn shaft to engage while lifting, Charger connection at top of battery, Pic3 on charge now, it is made for right handed people, spindle thread 5MM 0.8
Had a quick go it works and seems OK for the price. Life ? it is an occasional use thing, so battery life in use will be the interesting thing

I also have the katsu version...does the job. It's slow but when there is no alternative slow is fine
Note....although the cutting disc looks quite cute don't be tempted to remove the guard. It turns out they're perfectly capable of cutting fingers

I've had a go as I have some sections of chassis rail to cut out and replace, and it's not special. I am in two minds whether to return it, or whether it's not worth the hassle or might be useful for some small jobs. Mine seems to have developed a dodgy switch in the short time I've used it this afternoon, though that might be the thermal cutout. It stalls quite easily, but my air one can do that too. Battery charging didn't seem to take very long. There are three LEDs to denote battery level, it dropped from three to two almost straight away and then stayed on two for ages until it stopped completely. The other battery was still charging, so I'll have another play tomorrow.

I've already noted the temperamental switch issue. I worked the switch a few times, which appears to have improved it slightly. I'm not convinced the motor is actually a brushless unit, either.
These obviously aren't high quality units, but as a use & abuse tool, you get a lot for the money. A bare unit from one of the main brands is around 5X the price.
